White smoke on startup?

I have an '84 z28 and I asked my dad to start it up while I stood behind it and I noticed a cloud of white smoke came out on the startup and when he shifted into drive, the smoke cleared up pretty quick but I'm not sure if thats normal considering how thick it was, if someone could fill me in that would be great.

Thanks, Daniel.

Re: White smoke on startup?

It's common for valve seals to leak and cause that.

Re: White smoke on startup?

Yeah you may want to check out and make sure there is no coolant in the oil burning off. White smoke is a sign of a possible blown head gasket.
