i Have hedman shorty headers. The ball and socket type non coated ones. Currently mated to a. Severly hacked together factory y pipe. I live in Canada where there is no emissions testing so smog legality doesn't matter.

Easy option would be to just get hedmans y pipe but I'm not a fan of the 2.25 piping. Would like 2.5 or even 3 inch as I will be piecing together a 3 inch system replacing the cat
Has anyone done this? Or had a shop do it? Or is there one available that will work?

Re: Any one fab their own y pipe ?
Do you recall what bends/where you got them? What about the 3 inch ball and socket flanges?
Total cost?

Re: Any one fab their own y pipe ?
The parts list is in the link I left you is I think he got them here probably $150-200

The one I made for my self was $100-150, merging much faster without using the flowmaster collector.

http://stores.ebay.com/Mandrel-Bendi...=p4634.c0.m322

http://mandrelbendingsolutions.com/mandrel-bends/

1. 6 @ 2.5" 90 degree bends
2. 2 @ 2.5" 45 degree bends
3. 1 @ 3" 45 degree bends
4. 5 @ 2.5" to 2.5" couplers.
5. Flowmaster Y250300 Collector

To get the ball and socket joints google found them instantly

Yeah, I'd noticed that after I had posted was at work so could only skin the other thread. In your parts list above you have 6@ 2.5 90 degree in assuming 6 is the quantity you used? Or is it the radius of the bend

Quantity 6 but what you need depends on the style you choose.

Re: Any one fab their own y pipe ?
I'd like to replicate what you have carbon copy except perhaps swapping the mandrel bends for normal bends sources locally to keep costs down. And to mate up to hedmans instead of the flowtechs you built it for

I made it for hooker headers, I would not use flotecks as an anchor

but you will need these + the ball and socket stuff

1. 6 @ 2.5" 90 degree bends
2. 2 @ 2.5" 45 degree bends
3. 1 @ 3" 45 degree bends
4. 5 @ 2.5" to 2.5" couplers.
5. Flowmaster Y250300 Collector

you can skip the 2.5 to 2.5 couplers but I used them to help me get angles and lengths right

Re: Any one fab their own y pipe ?
I just got the Hedman Y pipe pn 500-17678 from Jeg's and it's a ceramic coated 2.5" pipe paired with their 68478 ceramic coated shorty headers. Get your headers coated if you can.

Re: Any one fab their own y pipe ?
I stripped them to bare metal before installation and painted them with the vht header paint. 3 years later they've held up great. Yeah I have hedmans not flowtechs.

Re: Any one fab their own y pipe ?
I was just going off of this from the header sticky on this page:

The y-pipe is a 2.25" pipe that y's off into a 2.5". However, you can cut this at the y and use 2 mandrel bent 3" peices. The collector design on the pipe (for the y) expands out to about 3.25" which allows you to easily weld the 3" section in. Y-PIPE WONT FIT WITH MINISTARTER!! Also, you'll need to weld an o2 bung on the header collector. Avg price: $135.00, Ypipe #17470: $95.00. ($215 set)

As well as summits site says 2.25 onto 2.5

Re: Any one fab their own y pipe ?
I did 2.5 > 3", but I also started with the older version of those headers with the 3 bolt header flanges, cut them off and put on 3" v-band flanges like you see on turbo setups, making pulling the headers a roughly 45min job for one person....

I have pictures somewhere... I also sandblasted mine (I've owned the headers since the early 90's this is the 3rd f-body I've had them on and they were quite rusted before I started) and coated them with VHT, they're holding up OK but they definitely are showing some rust spots...

Re: Any one fab their own y pipe ?
Hey crossfire see if there's a local powder coating facility the does ceramic coatings also. I asked the guy who did mine if I could have them redone down the road after years of use and he said they do them all the time that way.

Re: Any one fab their own y pipe ?
Nice job Robert. Ive had a guy in town build me two sets over the years to match up to my headers and 3in intermediate pipe.
