I am looking for options to replace the exhaust in my new to me TTA. It currently has a newer Flow Master cat back on it but I do not like the tone and it is too loud.
I would like to replace the muffler only, is there a Magnaflow with the same dimensions so I could reuse the like new piping that is on the car? Other quieter good flowing options?
I have been told the flow masters are not good for a turbo too, not the best flowing and the turbo will not spool as quick?
I have a v6 2.8L 1987 Camaro, and I want to put an after market proseries flow master muffler on it. 1st would anyone recommend against this and why? 2nd what size inlet and outlets do I need? 3rd should I get a full cat back system instead of a just the muffler alone? Why? 4im looking for a little more umph behind the cars exhaust sound, a little more rumble, nothing to arrogent tho, it's only a v6.
i bought the 3.00" Flowmaster 80 system and ran it for 2 years. Great exhaust burble. Too much droning and booming in the car for my ears. But it is the only one with the 3.00" inlet and dual 3.00" outlets with the beautiful stainless tips. I like them trimmed and tucked up in the factory position.
I would consider the Magnaflow next. Just have to adapt my tapered 3.00" outlets with the 2.50" outlet of the Magnaflow muffler outlet pipes.
To reduce interior boom I have tried a high flo cat, a 3.00" cat delete pipe, a Summit glasspack and a real Flowmaster resonator but none of them dampen the interior boom at all.......
Thirdchance i think your car might sound slightly louder because you have them cut back almost like dumps, they are much more wide then 3"! I have the 80series catback as well (full 3") dual outs and it sounds great. There is drone but not bad at all, once again the word 'loud' is a variable term. I go from a couple of my friends 70's cars with true dual exhaust to the third gen and those are loud to me.
EDIT: also, the op, or new replying person, is asking about v6.

Thanks Ghettobird52. I agree longer tailpipes might help a bit but the supplied Flowmaster big baloney pipes hang out like they are from the wrong car. Thats why I trimmed and put up in the stock position...
The Flowmaster 80 3.00" catback was OK with the stock 305 engine. No real drone inside and nice sound if you are used to Camaro systems. But now running a 355 with a large cam and it is MUCH noisier inside. However just stab and steer, rev it more and it is fine.....lol

I think you misunderstood my post. i wasnt talking about the length, but the actual width of the your outlets, they are MUCH larger than 3"!! Im guessing some of that extra 'loudness' HAS to be coming from those huge outlets. Also they are slightly angled down towards the ground like dumps, not like an exhaust pipe which is straight back.
I also cant comment on an L03 with 80series, but my built L05 sounds great!
Not sure what your exhaust shop was doing because mine came out perfecto!
OK Great Ghettobird52: thanks for the suggestion. Just for my piece of mind I will extend my tips outside the bumper like yours. Will advise if any difference.
