$ to weld up cat-back?

I got a Hooker cat-back for Xmas . I was wondering how much I should expect to pay to get the system welded up at a muffler shop? I thought I would pull my stock junk and install the system at home with the supplied clamps ( just snug enough to get me to the shop which is about 3 block from my house ) and then take it in and get it welded.

I had the whole system installed and welded for $80 at a local shop. It might be worth the money if you can spring it. I remember when I did the exhaust on my Safari Wagon. It used the same crossover muffler, but the intermediate was a couple of feet longer. Took me all damn day to get that thing up there.

I don't reccomend trying it at all if you don't have air tools or a good angle grinder. Exhaust bolts rust so completely that you will need to cut the old system apart in order to remove it.

Good Luck!

Yeah, I got the tools. I want to put it in myself because I know I'll take my time and get everything lined up right.

I was quoted at $100, but when the guy was done he jacked it up to $160. I would be looking at around $100.

The muffler shops close to my house are real bastards..they charged me 20 bucks just to weld my cat on.. the cat was installed already. They tried to charge me 60 at first, bastards.. This chinese guy at a shop tried to charge me $100 to weld a row shut in my radiator, then told me some story about how he came to america blah blah blah.. I told him I could buy a replacement radiator for $110 and that his business is going to die if he doesn't learn about not cheating the customer, because we don't stand for it in this country. Just venting a little. I've had the worst luck when it comes to any service related to cars.

There is one very good shop I know of though..it's called Mesa Muffler in Newport. They always do a great job and do it for cheap. Whenever I have something that can wait the 20 minute drive I go there.

I live south of Houston. The place I'm going to installed and welded up a cat-back for my friends, huh......Civic. They did a good job on it and only charged him $70. I was just curious if this was a good price.

Sounds right. Don't pay more than $100, and if you get it at $80 or less, consider it a deal.

I payed $50 here, and it would have been less, but I had to get a section pipe put in too. From what everyone else payed, I think I got a pretty good price.

83 MidniteZ! Woah, $50??? I live in GA too; tell me where you went, dude! I hope to get my Dynomax catback, Catco cat, and Hedman headers + y-pipe done before this winter's over, so I'd really like to know where to go around here. Did you go to a big known shop or to the local dinky shops to get a good deal? (I just ask b/c I just got 2 good used tires for $64 mounted and balanced!)

I paid about 150 Canadian which is about 99 American, they hoisted it installed it and welded it up, i also got a 3inch straight pipe welded in spot of my cat. All while i waited in about 40 minutes.
For anyo of those in Calgary Alberta Canada, hit up Carline muffler next to Chinook Center in the industrial area, just beside the dealership there.

I installed mine myself and a local muffler shop removed the clamps and welded it up for $45.Took about a half hour.

I had two tail pipes bent and everything welded for 125.00 here in NY.That includes moving my o2 sensor to the pipe below the manafold. Look around for somebody who is a car guy himself. They cut you a break most of the time. Not being pushy to have it done right on the spot helps too. Work with them and they will work with you.

My entire cat-back was done for $267, parts and labor. Thats a 2.5" intermediate pipe, flowmaster 80, they made the tail pipes, and welded it all on. Did a real nice job too.

Your best bet is to call around. I only paid $80 for mine and they even did customer work to it!
