What Headers Are Best?
What Headers Are Best?
Ok everyone, I just put on a 3" flowmaster cat-back exhaust and removed the cat. I'm going to put headers on now and was wondering what have you guys used? I'm looking at the hedman elite headers, of the hedman plain ones ($100) plust the y-pipe that they say you need or the jet coated dynomax headers. as anybody ever installed any of those? which ones fit the best? I'm looking to spend about $250-$300 for the parts. thats why I'm not gonna do SLP's I'm also taking the AIR stuff off to thats another reason not to go with SLP's. Any help would be great!! thanks.

They're not the best, but the Edelbrock took my brother and I 6 hrs to install. I thought I remember someone saying the Hooker headers were a tighter fit, but don't quote me on that.

The Hookers are good quality, as long as you take the time to open up the collector ball flange when you install. Plug clearance is tight (shorty plugs recommended), but clearance to engine and frame is very good. They look like traditional long tubes from the top, unlike the TES with that pipe going over the top (ugly, in my humble opinion). However, at $350 uncoated, the Hookers will bust your budget.
The Dynamax come with the y-pipe and A.I.R. fittings. Coated will bust your budget, but uncoated are reasonably priced.
I stripped the black shipping paint from mine and used 1500 degree paint on them. Won't provide the heat isolation that coating does, but will keep them from getting ugly. $15 of paint beats $100+ for coating in the budget department.

SLP's are the best. If your not looking to spend alot on their quality of header than the Edelbrocks are a good choice.

Stay away from Edelbrock. SLP's are the best. Everything else is fair game and good.
Kevin, why do you say to stay away from the Edelbrocks? I'm also debating between edelbrock tes or the hedman headers (which are about $100 cheaper, no?) The cat will be removed and hopefully a random technology 3" cat-back system installed. Which headers of those two are a better choice for this setup?
(Which headers are easier to remove air tubing and what about O2 sensors?)
