Cat or no cat???

this weekend I’m going to tear into my 92. Right now I have hooker 2055’s on it, with a 3” flowmaster catback with no cat on it, and it honestly sounds fantastic, it’s not really loud, isn’t raspy, no drone, it sounds great. With that being said I am going to tear it all out and start over. I have a set of NOS SLP header’s, with the y pipe, and a NOS SLP TOTL cat back. My car is a 92 a 92 Z28 1LE. It was an N10 dual cat car by the RPO, but the hookers were on it when I bought it years ago. I had an 88 iroc that had a ZZ4 with the same headers, and catback, and it did have a cat, and it sounded great as well. What I’m wondering is if I do those headers and catback without a cat will it be obnoxious? Anybody have a similar setup? I bought the catback cheap and technically it’s the wrong midpipe, as it has the 4 bolt rectangle flange for the cat so I’ll be cutting that off regardless of whether I go cat or no. Just looking for options and opinions on the cat or no cat.

Re: Cat or no cat???

My setup exhaust-wise is similar and I run without a cat. I originally had the TOTL SLP mufler and it sounded great. I changed the muffler out to a similar Flowmaster and it sounded just as good just louder. I recently changed to a Magnaflow to return to the duals look and the sound is a bit quieter, but still good. If you can get past inspections without it then go without the cat.

Re: Cat or no cat???

Ive never run the SLP exhaust system but ive run about every other one at some time or another and have taken the cat off all 5 Thirdgens ive owned. They never were too loud I didn't think and never had a strong gassy smell people say these cars get when you remove them. I did take my charcoal box out of my 87 Formula and didn't vent it good enough. It got to smelling strong so I wound up replacing it and it went back to normal
