Headers and y pipe fitment question

So I’m pretty confused about the situation I’m looking into buying headers and I’m being told to buy shorty headers because longtubes will hang too low, but I read everywhere on here and longtubes are mainly what everyone uses except for stock manifolds the question is what do I need to get for the y pipe if I buy shorties? Or can I buy the black horse racing ls longtube headers for 82-92 camaro/firebird and barely have to mod anything? I have only $500 to spend and have the 4l60e

A little sparse on details for someone to be able to help you out...
These cars never came with a 4L60E transmission, did you swap to an LS/4L60E?
Or are you running a 700R4? (referred to at the end of its life as a 4L60, minus the E because it wasn't electronically controlled.)

Just get speed engineering long tube headers ($300 shipped) and you'll be fine. Mine don't hang that low at all and the performance is a lot better than you'll get with shorty headers. If you're going shorty you might as well keep stock manifolds.
