Catalytic Converter Flange
My car's cat only has a flange for connecting to the header side, but not for the intermediate pipe. The intermediate pipe just slips onto the cat and is secured with a U clamp. However, all of the exhaust kits that I have been looking at have the flange style connector for the intermediate pipe (At least in the pictures/diagrams). Is this normal for it to not have a flange? Or was the cat replaced with one without a flange? What are my options for an intermediate pipe? Any help or advice is welcome!! Thank You!
These are the options in looking at:

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/s...model/firebird
Also if you have something similar to one of these on your car would you recommend it

Re: Catalytic Converter Flange
Walker exhaust diagram for your car shows ball fitting from the cat to the extension pipe, cat slips on to the y pipe.
This isn’t gospel as walker builds their own system loosely based on the original, more and more their components don’t line up directly in place of an oem part, however location and component type are usually pretty accurate. It’s likely the catalytic converter has been replaced with an aftermarket piece, they’ve lopped the ball flange off the extension pipe/converter. I’m newish to 3rd gens, but I’ve never scene one setup the way yours is.
As a recent buyer and driveway installer of a cat back system, I’d pass this on to you:
Driveway exhaust installation SUCKS. You’ll have to drop the rear axle out of the car to get sufficient room to install the intermediate pipe. Pay an exhaust shop to install for you.
Decide if originality is important to you, if it isn’t don’t go with a dual outlet muffler, it’s a waste of weight and kills power.
The factory manifolds are the first obstruction to exhaust flow, then the Y pipe, then the cat then the intermediate pipe and the muffler.
if you’re going to go the factory style exhaust, shop around using the 90-92 camaro 5.7L single cat as your vehicle, it’ll get you the largest exhaust bolt on ready for your car. The magnaflow 3” y pipe is well regarded. If you need a cat in your area, now is the time to update to a high flow.
I’d highly recommend finding an exhaust shop to fabricate the whole thing front to back with a single tip. You’ll be ahead money and it’ll flow as well as anything off the shelf under $500, and you’ll have all the skin on your knees and elbows.
