Air Management Pipe-To-Converter (what happens if we remove the CAT)
Air Management Pipe-To-Converter (what happens if we remove the CAT)
Exhaust - CAT - Air Management Pipe-To-Converter.
Hi all,
so my 1992 Firebird 305 ci had rotten exhaust box (now removed). Cat also looks bad but car runs smooth. There is a Air Management Pipe-To-Converter going onto that CAT. I am on a budget and want to put cherry bombs at the back or something which gives a nice muscle, burble sound at the back.
1. Should I remove the CAT?
2. If I remove the CAT where do I put the air management pipe that goes into the CAT?
3. Would removing the air system mess up the ride and ECU ?
4. How do I make the car sound nice (without exhaust box at the back, but somewhat louder and muscle sound).
any advice would be greatly appreciated as always .
TIA

exhaust box
1. No particular reason to do that.
2. If you removed the cat (short for "catalytic converter", it is NOT CAPITALIZED) you would probably want to remove the entire AIR system including the pump and the lines going into the manifolds, because all of that pumps air into the cat and nothing else once the engine is warmed up.
3. Won't "mess up" the ECU. Not sure about the ride.
4. By NOT using cherry bombs. Best bet is an entire cat-back exhaust such as https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hok-16823hkr or https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-680023. By the time you buy muffler(s) and have to pay a shop to put them on, you'll have damn near this much tied up in it anyway. Systems like these, you can put on yourself in your garage, and they fit PERFECT and last like stock. Unlike cherry bombs which lose their packing in a few hundred miles and rust out in months.

We all are. No need to beat us over the head about being cheeeeeeeeep.
No idea what that is.
