Re: Smog delete

You don't need any belt. The AIR pump belt on a 1984 model is independent from all the other accessories...

Hey T.L got a quick question for you,

I'm currently having my 87 Formula 350 (L-98) rebuilt and was looking to delete the smog stuff off of it. Was wondering if you had any words of wisdom for me since this is my first time doing it. By pulling the smog pump and the cat will my car throw a code? I got different header pipes for it as I dont have a welder (and I want to keep the original parts to bring it back to original if needed). Also is there any potential draw backs to doing this? I've been doing research on and off here for a bit and I'm getting conflicting answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

While I don't recommend removing the emission controls, removing the CAT and AIR will not throw a code. Modern cars have an O2 sensor after the CAT but thiidgens have only one O2 sensor in the driver side exhaust manifold, so the ECM would have no idea that the CAT or AIR has be removed.

With that said, any increase in performance will be minimal, and your exhaust will stink...
