I thought this exhuast setup up while looking at certain cat-back.
I can't post the pic I drew (to big) but if you post here I will e-mail it to you. After you view the file if you can answer any of the questions below please do.

Your opinion?
Has anyone every tried this?
Will it work good for a 305 TPI which later will be SC?
What muffler would be best for a system like this?

Also if anyone has a 3" cut out, can you see if there is enough clearance for the wingnuts (on the cut-out cap) to spin with a 3" pipe in the middle? If the wingnuts can't spin can they be swapped for a nut remebering that you have to have clearance to fit a socket over it?

E-mail the pic to me so I can shrink it down so we can see what your talking about. You could have at least explained it....

I attached the pic. I don't think there should be any space concerns with this becouse the Flowmaster 30 series are only 5"x10"x17", smaller than our stock mufflers. It looks a lot like a replica of the Borla setup with an exhaust cut out. I think it's worth a shot. It looks like a stock I pipe could even be used. Any other opinions?

I think it's a great idea.

I've been thinking of something similar, but with a Warlock muffler from Flowtech. They're about $65. Here's what I drew up.

Exhaust with Warlock Muffler

Then you can run it open, or attach these which are about $24.

You can check out the mufflers at both Jeg's, or Summit Racing, or go straight to Flowtech's web page.

The mufflers come in 2 1/2" or 3" so they should work out well for a lot of people.

bad idea. Flowmasters gives exaust a different sound than a straight through muffler like borla or their open plate. If you have a chambered muffler and a pipe with no muffler than you will be getting 2 totaly different sounds. With the borla you get the same sound from both side but the drivers side is just quieter.

So Tas, what about my idea?

Although mine is more for quite street use, then free flowing strip use. That's what the Warlock design is intended for anyway.

To me it would be easier than using a cutout right after the cat. Not as free flowing of course, but a little easier.

Well regardless of what you think, that's what I'm gonna do when I get my 350 in my car. Although I have no idea how the Warlock sounds when it's set up for "quite"?

What if I made the pipe connecting to the muffler have a cap like the cut-out connecting to the tip? That would mean no exhaust would be going through the muffler when it is straight pipe.

It is like having one of borla's solid adjuster plates between the cut-out and tip when being used for street but then move it to between the cut out and muffler for strip use.

That's a great idea AJ. I didn't see it the first time. I don't think the pic loaded or something. I've gotta a couple ideas myself.

1. 3" pipe to a dynomax bullet muffler with a 3" turndown right before the axle. You could use half of the dynomax "I" pipe.

2. Flowmaster 2 chamber, 3" in, dual 2.5" out under the rear passanger seat with two 2.5" pipes exiting in stock location.

3. take out my 80 series flowmaster, have a 3" pipe to 3" to dual 2.5" "Y" pipe piece to have two 2.5" pipes exiting in stock location with 4thgen z28 tips.

and some other ones.....

I've been trying to use Yahoo for pics. It always worked for me cause the pics were in my cache so I assumed it worked for everyone else. Now I use Streamload.

But wouldn't that be loud all the time? Or would you use a cap?

2. Flowmaster 2 chamber, 3" in, dual 2.5" out under the rear passanger seat with two 2.5" pipes exiting in stock location.
I've thought of that one. You mean the truck style muffler right? It's more of a "split flow" instead of a "crossflow"?

3. take out my 80 series flowmaster, have a 3" pipe to 3" to dual 2.5" "Y" pipe piece to have two 2.5" pipes exiting in stock location with 4thgen z28 tips.
There you must mean like a collector, but reversed? I've thought of that also. Flowmaster makes a "dual 2.5" in/one 3in. out" collector that you could just flip around and use it for a 3" in/dual 2.5" outs. That way you ain't gotta pay nobody to make it.

and some other ones.....
Cool. I'm glad I'm not the only one that stares at the ceiling wondering how I can better my car, instead of watching the road.
