Exhaust with spohn crossmember???

Working on finishing up my ls swap on my 84 z28 and after installing this spohn crossmember that I picked up for a great price I noticed how tight the clearance was gonna be with my headers. I’m hoping to run dual 3 inch stainless but I wouldn’t be entirely opposed to doing 2.5 inch and maybe even o sling out the pipe going under the crossmember to get as much clearance as possible. Anybody have any pictures of what they did or suggestions?

How much power are you making? Unless you are 600+ skip the dual exhaust and go large single (3.5 or 4 inch). You'll have better fitment and your ears will thank you.

really? I figured the dual exhaust would sound better… the car is just gonna be a mild street build so not super high power. My main focus is sound and clearance

Besides the insane custom work needed to get it to tuck up and fit neatly, you are left with very little room for mufflers. These cars are tin cans and my system drones horribly at speed. I have cats, mufflers and one resonator and it is still too loud for me to drive without hearing protection. Drone goes right through hearing protection and rattles your bones. If you are in the 350hp range a single 3" system would work, and sound nice.

That looks like the UMI crossmember.Unless you put a skyjacker kit on long tubes and duals are not gonna happen. Get the Holley blackheart crossmember, or shorties with a y-pipe and follow the factory routing.

We went the insane custom work route and got the crossmember modified by a guy with welding skillz. Not pretty, AND heavy, but got the job done. He replaced the straight pieces of tubing running between the frame mounts with some pie-sliced chunks of steel that make a couple of 'humps' between the frame mounts and the transmission crossmember mount. It is still tight under there, and the exhaust is a compromise. Since it's not a street car, we had the passenger rear seat floor cut out and a flat piece of steel welded in place to make room for the muffler to fit under the car and not hit much.

Soon to get a custom made exhaust that'll fit better and not be so janky. As usual, waiting on the guy to get time.

I'm pretty late to the party, but these are very useful for stuff like this.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hed-18718

They are available in different sizes, as well as standard flanges or ball/socket flanges.
