Is that exhaust tubing to fit under the crossmember?

Re: For those with Spohn type X-Member

ive seen those pieces on ebay before, couldnt find any now but they were alot cheaper than $75/each, in fact IIRC they were like $50 for two pieces... check around! but a good find nonetheless, if there are none available anywhere online then these look like a quality alternative.

im wondering if it would make more sense to use a 4" pipe and cut/weld a notch into it or ovalized. the ovalized would be a last choice because of how "tall" the pipe would be to get the right exhaust flow.

i think these companies make these pieces seem more "special" than they actually are, whose to say i cant take a 3" or 3.5" piece of piping, use a hydraulic press with a slightly curved attachment to compress it oval in the center and then just use an exhaust expander to get it back to a round shape on the ends?? seems cheaper and easier with probably the same result. I;m laborous type by nature, i prefer to "make" my own parts to keep cost down unless i HAVE to buy it ---- also if its WIRING, forget it, i hate wiring.

Re: For those with Spohn type X-Member

i also wanted to add that since those pieces your showing us are $75/each and more starting at the 2.5" size, 2 x @ $75 each plus shipping is over $150 where as the cross member made to fit with the double hump is only $110 + ship, so its not cost effective to use these as an alternative....Yet.... Till i make some! lol

Re: For those with Spohn type X-Member

looks like you can just do the same with a piece of blocking placed over round tube and a hammer

i didnt know hawks had that cross member. might have to pick one of those up. but need a mount for torque arm, specifically spohn torque arm.

true but if someone wants to make a hundred or so that block n wood method is gonna get old pretty quick, not to mention the parts wont be consistent.

Re: For those with Spohn type X-Member

ofcourse. i mean, i would first just try it at home before purchasing something like that unless you dont have any existing tubing to use. just saying. doesnt seem like any engineered design or anything.

not sure how it may affect the flow because it could act as a choke. might also affect the sound of the exhaust?

i needed thse bad though for my build.

You have to start with a larger diameter tube before doing the "smashing" or you will reduce flow area. That is what they are doing with this piece.

Re: For those with Spohn type X-Member

My exhaust hangs so low right now that i may have to go with more of an oval shaped tube from the long tubes to the mufflers.

Maybe later in the summer when the car is done i might see if i can get a hold of something for cheap and try two dyno runs with round pipe and oval pipe to see if there is a difference.
