O2 sensor wiring

Greetings all. I have an 86 SC with a 305 LG4 imported from Japan and sorting out a few things before I can register and drive in the UK,

During the regulation testing apparently my o2 sensor blew out whilst at the garage (not sure how) but you can see whats left of it in the pic next to the new one.

Now I cannot find the harness or wiring anywhere. Could anyone show me a pic or point out where the female end of the loom is please? Does it run along the wiring that runs to the front of the car, just by the fuel lines or does it connect to the loom just behind the vacuum booster (the other side of the bulkhead of the steering wheel). I've not been able to find it

Thanks for any pointers

Re: O2 sensor wiring

It's in the harness breakout that runs along between the carb and the left valve cover. It breaks out right near the carb, maybe just in front of it, and goes over the VC and down toward the [mr_spock] sen-sore [/mr_spock], along with the dark green wire for the temp gauge sending unit. It's purple.

That doesn't look like "blow out". Looks more like "broken off", perhaps from a combination of weakness from old age & corrosion, and getting bumped by something somehow. You might well find the sen-sore's wire and the other half of the sen-sore itself still hanging from the purple wire.

Re: O2 sensor wiring

Thanks for your help Sofa,

I also think it was knocked off, it must have been weakened as it's not an insignificant size.

I had read that it was a purple cable too but couldn't find any trace of the plug ...

I will have a look again and trace it from the top as you suggest, thanks again. I do remember seeing a purple and a green wire together in a plug. near the booster so wonder if it is on the end of that.

I will investigate a report back

Cheers

Dek

Re: O2 sensor wiring

Yes I believe it is working, its the needless gauge like the battery . they are backlit with red quadrant (I'd not seen non needle gauges before)

I spoke to the guy at the garage and he said half the sensor with the lead is hanging down so I may get under the car and see if I can locate it..I didn't think the lead was long enough to be hanging under the car.

He is adamant the he heard a bang , then heard the gas escaping thru the remainder of the sensor left in the manifold.

Re: O2 sensor wiring

At last found the connector tucked up in the subframe

Thanks for the help👍

On a different note was this needleless dash cluster (for temp voltage and oil ) an option ?

Thanks
