Need help with header bolts....

Well, I put on my headers last summer, and I forgot that you have to tighten them every so often. I went to tighten them last week and one of the bolts was only hand tight, and another bolt was completely missing. Is there any kind of very high temp loctite (removable kind) or something else I can use? What about lock washers? How often are you suppose to tighten them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Need help with header bolts....

The loctite you want to use is High Heat (red). Unfortuanately, it's about $7 for an itty bitty tube. It'll last you through the header bolts though. Fortunately, $7 is also worth the money when you're forced to replace gaskets, bolts, etc. Some header bolts do come with lock washers...that's fine. Use loctite anyway. I usually do this: Put header bolts on with loctite and new gaskets. Tighten from inside out. Immediately warm engine. Tighten all the bolts while hot...yuck. Let it sit for a night. You shouldnt have near the problems as before if you follow these steps. See ya.
