to all you guys with loud exhaust...

i had another run in with a bitchy neighbour tonight complaining about me running my car ( at idle) is too loud. i only usually run it 6-7 pm after dinner and not every night. Just wondering what you guys have done in the same situation. Keep in mind this guy is very unresonable.

Please no burn his house down posts :P

Unless you have open headers, tell him to get a life. It's just a car with a muffler, it can't be all that loud, are there any Harley's in your neighborhood. Now those are loud. I'd be out there revving the motor as long as it's not too late, but 6/7pm, come on.

it's a single 3" with a Dynomax Super Turbo hooked up to the 454. Unfortunantly no Harleys in the area. Nobody else has a prob with it besides him.

I'd burn his house down lol j/k. I'd tell him that if it bugs him that much to call the police. Lets see what they have to say. It cant be that loud.

PS A side Note if it is loud and you may get in trouble just ignore this hole post. lol

I live in an apartment complex where everybody has to park out front in one big line (horizontally) no parking lot or anything...and we have this serbian family and the father and wife are total DICKS! He complains constantly to my landlord trying to get us kicked out and makes up stories saying I rev it up at 2am. I go racing Friday and Saturday nights...but when I get home late I IMMEDIATELY shut the motor off...sometimes before I even get there and just coast on up....and one day he even came out and wanted to start a fight!! He ran out of his apartment in his underwear at 1am and got in my face. I almost starting laughing, but then I got pissed and was about to get myself arrested until my GF forced me to leave the scene. Some people are just born A-HOLES and PRUDES and think that everyone is out commiting a crime or trying to run down there children on the street. My advice is to smile and ignore them My landlord even told me I can tell that guy to **** off cuz she doesn't give a **** what he says...she likes my cars! HAH. If you own your house I suggest you do the same. Smile and keep the motor running

Kinda the same case here. The only time i'm out late with it is Sunday nights during the summer (cruise night). I do the same, i kill the motor down the backlane and coast into the garage. i just know this guys is going to constantly be in my face. He threatened to shot the neighbours dogs because they barked too loud. The nerve of some people.

F-ck em!!!

Unless there is some sort of noise ordinance in your area or your car is illegally modified these people don't have a leg to stand on.

Its your right to drive your car wherever and whenever you want. As long as you aren't deliberately noisy (revving the engine in the wee hours) you aren't doing anything wrong.

Tell those buttwipes to move out to the country or sleep in a library if they want quiet.

Sidebar: If I HAD to think of an aggravating exhaust note, it would definitely be from a Harley...but thats another story.

Im havin the same problem with these africans that moved next door to me... he can barely speak english and he starts bitchin at me. Hes got *****, cause last summer during one of their parties, they were blasting this tribal music (and i thought rap was bad ) we had to shut every damn window in the house, and we still heard it.

Well, if that happens again this summer, Ive come up with a solution, legally, which involves the following:
-200 ft. speaker wire
-2 of my loud speakers placed infront of their fense
-Connecting the 200 ft. of wire and the speakers to my 1000 watt power amp (down in basement), turnin amp to full.
-1 beer
-1 Metallica CD (old school of course )
-Insert CD, hit play, sit back, open beer, and have some fun!

And beings that theres no noise ordance around here untill 10 at night, Im totally in the clear! Good luck with your azz hole neighbor!

I'm not predudiced, but sometimes it's funny having neigbors from other parts of the world... my sister's friend had some armenian neighbors that played armienian music so loud that they could hear it inside the house with storm windows closed, they were throwing a family re-union,they had expensive livingroom furniture and christams lights outside yearround and when my sister went over to spy on them with a camcorder, they were sacrificing a live lamb!!! they routinly sacrificed sheeps and goats until the wildlife & game people interveened. on a tech related note: low freq's = longer soundwave lenghts, you can point the tips away, but the low tones will be much more prominent 60-80 ft away!! in other words, the sound will start at your car and not be fully heard until it reaches your nieghbors house,I used to live across from a 24 hour towing/impound lot and indutrial lots with lots of semi's...I have no sympaty for this guy,he needs to learn to sound proof his house! I'd sit in the driveway and do a 5 min brake stand in third gear (with junk tires and rear linelocker ofcourse) smoke that ***** out!! and.....get a harley, heavily modified street/strip bike w/strait pipes, and start throwing biker parties at your house!!

People like him **** me off, and sometimes I do stuff I shouldn't.

What I would do, is next time you come home late on sunday night, do a very loud noisy burnout in front of his driveway. Then do it the next night.

Sadly, the only way to shut up idiots like him is to make it worse, then "comprimise" by going back to what you used to do.

Maybe it's because I'm older than most of you guys. But someday you'll be that pissed-off dad running out in his underwear at 2am because you have to get up at 5am to go to work. Except in your case it'll be some teenage idiot with a Honda and a fart muffler.

The problem is easily solved. Save some money and buy yourself some property (with a house and garage). You can crank that engine at any hour and no one will be bothered. Except your wife and kids who'll come screaming out of the house in their underwear. Oh well, you won't want to crank it up at 2am since you have to get up early for work.

I am a dad, and I don't care. If I heard a fart pipe, I would run outside anyway just so they could feel the thunder of a real american v-8. Our neighbor didn't like us when we moved in. The wife that is, the father, and son were okay. My roommate and I had his gas R/C truck running circles in our garage. She came over and yelled at me. If I was not raised like I was, I would have smacked her and sent her on her way. But I didn't. Anyway, the next night, my roommate and I got home at the same time. He has a 2000 Z-28, I have a 91. I went back outside to put my car in the garage, and proceded to coat the concrete with rubber. She of course calls the police, and our landlord. Both of which did nothing. Well the cop asked if we had been working on our cars, which we weren't. After that, even open headers on my car, doesn't bring the cops out anymore.

See the thing is, if people were nice about it when they asked us to quiet down a little bit, I dont think any of us would have too much of a problem.

Its when people are such rude ignorant azzholes, you feel like knocking their head off, puttin it under your rear tire, then lightin em up all the way down the damn street.

This IS America damnit, and regardless, we are alowed to do anything that we please, within the law, and no one can do a damn thing about it. If people learned how to be nice when askin someone to do something for them, they might get it.

Just to inform you JAF. I'm 26, work as a Mechanic, and me and my GF live in this house. I was outside at 7pm in the evening idling my car in MY garage. Obviously i'm not moronic enough to go out at 2AM and rev the crap out of it. CHrist, i'd go out there and bitch if that was the case. My point is, my car WITH exhaust, idling in MY garage in the early evening ( sun wasn't even down yet) is perfectly within reason. Yet he's the ***** that has his stereo crank all morning noon and night. During the summers he sits in his nackyard with the doors wide open and the stereo just cranked. When i worked for Ford, i was up at around 6:30 AM and who's stereo do i hear blasting? HIS. If i don't say anything and can DEAL with it, he should shut his cakehole about my cars!

BTW I am looking into bigger property outside the city, as I'm running out of room to put my toys and parts

I started this post to hopefully hear of some ways to combat irate neighbours that freak at the sound of birds chirping in the morning, hopefully in a peaceful manner without resorting to a fist fight.

Do like I did last time that happened. Do donuts in front of his house ! If he makes you mad enough, do a few in his yard as well. I've had several complaints, never by neibors but in random places. I was riding though town and one guy stops his truck in front of me and tells me he will kick my *** if I keep it up. I wasn't even doing anything except normal driving!!! It wasn't THAT loud, just a glasspack. Geez
Anyway, patience is a virtue my friends

True! Find out what the max decible level is in your area (city ordinace) Some places have certian covanants that outway city ordinace and your SOL.
Neighbors give me dirty looks all the time because all my vehicles are loud, which isnt really a problem because im not often driving around after 10Pm anyways and I could beat the crap out of every single neighbor (not that I would)
Gotta admit though, back in the day it sure was fun to burn rubber at 2am (hell anytime) in the private drive of the retirement village

can't wait till I get my new true dual setup for my car with 2 1/2 inch core muffs

should be loud as hell

how can I make a sound clip of my car to post?

that is unless ppl want to start to donate to get me a new driveline and motor so I can get my turbo up and running again

There is a time and place for (nearly) everything. I bought four acres 46 miles outside of Atlanta, but still have to act responsibly. Print a copy of your comments on this topic and read it again in 10 years. If your perspective hasn't changed, maybe (just maybe) you're the problem. Walk up to them with a 1" wrench? That could get you killed (justifiably) in GA.

By the way, 20 years ago I raced my '70 GTO and '74 Z-28 on public roads, interstates, and even in front of our local strip mall (before they noticed the tire marks and installed speed bumps). Now, I think about the cost of tires and speeding tickets. In short, I grew up. Oh, and I still love muscle cars. Why else would I be on this site?

I have to agree with the "I would have been reasonable if he had not been an ******* about it" statement. People seem to have forgotten that you get more results with being nice than being nasty. Fortunatly, I have yet to have a problem with any of my neighbours. I live in a UPSTAIRS apartment, and park in front of my door. ( i back into the parking space) My wife told me, one afternoon after I had taken the Camaro out to go to the store, that my car was loud. I said "how loud?" She said "it sounds like I was starting it in the middle of the living room!" Hedmen hedders, true dual exhaust, glasspack mufflers. I have heard not one word of complaint from anybody, and I have run my car as early as 6:40am, and as late as 12:30-1am. Of course, we also have people who come into the complex blasting their sterio's at all hours....

JAF, you right about the 1" wrench comment I made. I said that with the mindset of what I would do where I live. This doesn't make it right, but here, it does tend to shut people up. They are mostly older-than-I-ams and go to bed with warm milk at 7pm. If they want it quiet, they can move outside the town limits. For the majority of my life I have not had any problems at all with neighbors. The ones I have had problems with, are just pissed b/c after the duplexes were built, all of a sudden they have more neighbors. That is life. No, I would not threaten anyone with a wrench. The police will remove them from my grass much more efficently.

My sister's boyfriend was driving in our neighbor hood one night and one guy just chucked a rock at his car. Put a nice dent in the hood. It was dark so they are not 100% sure it was him but they have a good idea who it was, lucky for him. Just some word of adivce be careful what you do because one day you will be walking back to you car after a nice day at the mall and you tires will be slashed. You cant prove who did it and your neighbor will be laughing his *** off. Sucks for me beacuse my car is very unique in my area, if i did something to pi$$ somebody off they would remember my car and come back for revenge.

i say f***'m. just ignore him every time he talks to you. that will **** him off even more. my neighbor tried to put that **** with me. he called my parents and told them that he was going to call the cops on me because i go to fast. he said he's worried that i'm going to hit his kids. as far as that goes, he shouldn't let his kids play in the middle of the street. plus the fact that i never even come close to his kids. his kids are afraid of my car. so after my mom yelled at me i went in front of his house and layed to big *** strips as he was yelling at me. so now when ever i pass his house i either rev the car up or i cherp the tires. i do it to be a dick. i'm really a good guy. i just pisses me off when other people are in my business.

i guess some neighbours are just idiots. Just to clarify, we have a backlane and he is directly across from us. There aren't really any kids in the area, not like that matters, the car hasn't left my garage since Oct. lol. Once the snow leaves, hopefully within the next 2 weeks, then the car should hit the road. If he's pissed now, just wait until hopefully i go through with my plans to put 3" duals on, 40 Series Flowmasters with dumps. I think that MIGHT be a little louder than my Super turbo now. I guess i just got pissed off at him because i try to respect the other neighbours by not firing it up late at night, not ripping down sidestreets, etc. I try to be courteous and responsible about it, but some people really need earplugs and a new attitude.

I bet that 454 sounds bad *** reverberating from the inside of the garage. a few of my neighwhores got together and tried to pull some crap about my car being too loud. when i was tearing its driveline apart, i would start it up just to hear it thump and lope sitting in my backyard. they were getting really agitated...
then i pulled the engine... and now... its geting rebuilt with a blower.. cant wait to hear the exhaust tone now! I bet my neighwhores are dying to hear it too...
