Hissing/gurgle under load
Hissing/gurgle under load
I can't find what is causing it...whenever I accelerate I can hear a hissing gurgling sound echoing of stuff that I pass. It sounds like a really bad exhaust leak but I can't find one. I have had all my pipes welded and have double checked all the connections for loose fittings or leaks. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?
Setup:
Edelbrock TES headers w/ 3in Y
3in high flow cat
full 3in catback going to a 3in Flowmaster with 4in tips
My exhaust sounds really nice exept for that hissing noise...I can't wait to get rid of it
Thanks in advance for the help
Matt

I've got the same problem. Except the air tube to my cat is off, so you can hear air sputtering out of that from the pump andou tof of the cat. It hgets teh loudest when the air pump is actually on. The little pipe on mine was rewelded, so the weld didn't hold and that is why it won't work now. But I think mine was doing that before I started messing with my exhaust too. I am thinking that it is just a noise our cars make. If I ever do find out what is doing it, I'll let ya know.

When I had my old cat, I gutted it and removed all the air stuff...I used a rubber stopper from Lowe's to plug up the hole so I wouldn't get that noise. Unfortunately I know my problem isn't that...and I know it is not a leaky joint because I just had a guy do all the work for the new exhaust. I'm thinking that it must be a leaky header gasket. I already changed out the driver's side and that didn't help...now for the impossible passesnger's side
Anybody else know what this hissing could be or share in the affliction?
Thanks

My car does it to, i have stock exhaust except for an 80 series flowmaster and a straight piped cat. I think maybe its were the stock y pipe connects to the exhaust manifolds, but i don't know? I'm gonna look at it tomorrow.

My car does it because there's a hole on the weld underneath the block where the AIR line splits. It's hard to see unless you take the pipes off the car.
Could it be the injectors firing? I was thinking about it and I upped my psi when I intalled my headers, and it has been at that point or higher since. I'm really not sure if the injectors would make that loud of a noise but I seem to have eliminated everything else.
I hope it isn't a pin size hole in the weld somewhere...don't really feel like pulling the headers back off to check it out if you know what I mean

the injectors are loud, i am assuming we are talking about TBI, but i dont think they are loud enough to hear in the car over the exhaust, i could be wrong though. its happened once or twice.

I can hear my injectors, but it's not nearly as loud as the exhaust. And it's more of a clicking sound too, as the exhaust has a hiss to it.
