smog pump and AC

I have cut both my smog pump and AC belts..Is it ok to totoally take out this system...Also the smog pump is the pump that runs the air into the cat correct?

The AIR pump first pumps air into the manifolds during startup to reduce emissions, then after the car is warmed up, it diverts the air to the cat to help burn up stuff there. You could remove all the A/C without any problems, the AIR system can be removed, but you have to consider that you may not pass emissions, and your cat has a better chance of being clogged without the air being pumped into it. It really cleans up the engine compartment though. What I did was run a pipe directly from the AIR pump to the cat and got rid of the rest of it, so my engine compartment is clean, and I passed emissions.

definitive, what kind of pipe/tubing did you use? I asked the question about going straight from the AIR pump to the cat but got no responses. I want to get headers w/o the AIR pipes but I have emissions so I do want to keep the AIR going to the cat (plus I just replaced my AIR pump). Did you get any kind of SES light when you disconnected the diverter valve?

I just used this high-temp heater hose (it was blue, I dont know if that has anything to do with it, It was about a dollar a foot). As for the computer, I do not have the stock computer in my car, so I dont know for sure if it will throw a code or not. I would try unplugging the wires from the valve and run it a while and see if anything happens. If not, Im sure you're good to go.

I'm planning on taking that crap out of my car this summer, but I was looking and the wires to my diverter valve are already unhooked and the computer hasn't thrown any codes. (I think that's the only wire connector there is). However, my friend has a Monte SS, and when he took that crap out of his car, his check engine light came on, which was quickly remedied by light bulb removal!
