Make a Cowl hood how to?

I was thinking about taking an early fiberglass hood and making it into a cowl induction hood. My plan was to take styrefoam sheets and glue them to the hood in the shape that I wanted the cowl to be then laying up fiberglass over top of the foam.
Any suggestions or info on how to make this look good. How do I make it blend in like it was part of the original hood and how do I get the nice smooth shiny finish without using bondo? Any help much appreciated.

I'm no expert on fiberglass, I've only done it a few times, but every fabrication idea is done on paper first. Are you going to make it a functional cowl? If so, you're going to have to do some cutting to develope a place for the air to go. I think you're going to get your best results by putting the sytrofoam down, laying a coat of fiberglass over the whole thing, smoothing it out, and then creating a mold from that. The layer of fiberglass will make it easier to eliminate any seams where the styrofoam meets the hood. You're probably going to have to cut up that hood you started with to make this project work. I think you're going to need a lot more help than the little bit I just gave you as well.

Don't do it to a factory 'glass hood... they have the scoop-channel things on them in the middle. A cowl wouldn't look good with those still there.

I'd just find a V6 car's flat steel hood and go from there.

I kinda took the easy way at this, Stock flat hood, 67 cowl hood, that was beat up. cut the cowl off and welded to the stock hood. Looks pretty good to me and cheap
