TBI Strut Tower Brace?
Anyone have any pics of a STB on a TBI car? I want to build one, but can't think of a great design. I can build anything, but I need a starting point. Thanks

That looks pretty good. I think I can build a pretty sweet one cheaper than $100. I have to wait until my motor is back in of course. Thanks guys.

I'm curious of shots on how it mounts up to the firewall as well, seems like it'd be a bit weak.

..i saw this post then went to work and hour later out of a scrap peice of 4foot 1 inch tubing and two 5inch by 2 inch peices of flat stock i had a strut brace. all i did was measure the width cut the flat stock drilled holes for it,tacked a mig weld took it off welded it and was done.. except mine runs straight across the intake no bends nothing even goes under the air filter and clears it by 1/2 inch. solid as hell and works like a dream. all in the same day i put my wonder bar on. what a difference in stiffening this 12 year old car up.
thx guys

The HSR barely clears the stock hood from what I've seen. There's really no room for a STB above it, and you can't go around the front like a carb because the TB and intake plumbing is in the way.

Not exactly. The HSR is set up just like a dual-quad tunnel ram, but with a TB on the front instead of 2 carbs on top. The runners are big, and take up almost all the space below the plenum. There's really no room at all between them.
It may be possible to run one under the TB, above the serpentine accessories, but it would be a VERY tight fit if it worked at all. You'd have better odds going over the top and praying the hood will shut.

Looking at my engine the way it sits right now, there is at least 2.5" between the upper plenum and the manifold. There is NO room under the TB though. The space between the front and rear posts or whatever is quite far back, so the STB would have to angle down and back. My thoughts are would it even be a benefit with it bent that way? Would the engine torquing back and forth during hard driving make it hit anything under there?

well your gonna want the strongest way .. if im thinking what your r i dont recomend to many bends kinda defeats the purpose i guess. but i would take a look at after market ones if i was you and go from there with your plans.

materials and tools i used:
sawsall
4foot of 1inch pipe cut ends to apropriate angle
flat stock mines 1/4 inch thick measure 2 w x 5 L
drill
bolts
mig welder
and an hour of your time.
you might have to bend the steel to meet your needs or make brackets to lift the steel up over your intake setup whatever it maybee.

Is a backing plate needed on the strut towers?
Or would washers be sufficient.
I think I've got all the stock I need for this. Might weld some up over the weekend.

There is no backing plate for the strut mounts. You drill the holes and simple put a nut on the end of the bolt once you feed it through the hole. There is a backing plate on the firewall lip though.
