Rear Hatch
Hi I was outside today looking at my spare rear hatch when I thought what if you were to sucide the hatch?? So I got to thinking about how cool that would be. I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried this or if it would even work with the glass?? I also wondered if anyone has Photoshop were they could maybe show the hatch opening?

more than likely could be done, ive never seen it, and it would be cool for show, but reversing the opening direction, would basically make the rear hatch useless. (cause you couldnt get into it) IMO...

that is so cool and just what I was thinking of.
I wont need access to my trunk area b/c I will be putting stereo equip. back there and just want something different than everyone else. I have 2 camaros and I want to do both completly different. So from the looks of it I would have to build like a piano hinge and then put hydraulics or some kinda ram on to push it up and then figure out how to lock it. This I think will be some what easy to do too. Oh by the way I'm only 16 so I have many years of working on my cars but want to get ideas for when I can afford them.

I remember that car! Man what a piece of work.
The other pics show a car that has been customized to all ends of imagination.
I dunno who the guy was that did the work on the car. Lots of work went into it.

You could do that with hydrauliccs without a ton of troubles. The simple way to do it would be to have a resivoir underneath your stereo equipment, and use two pumps or two one way pumps. Then, just hose everything up with pressure tested lines and run the wiring to switches to activate the pumps, and have some way of stopping it when it hits all the way, which should be built in somewhere. Not too difficult, but check it out with someone who knows more then cursory knowledge like myself.
are those electric motors? (would be a ton easier than hydrualics all together) anyways i see lines running from the *shocks*
how would you hold the hatch down.....i mean getting it on hinges would be easy..... just the actual latch would be the hard part

Those are definately either pnuematic or hydraulic pistons. But you could use an electric actuator, if it was powerful enough. Thats'd be the only problem, strength. Most of those actuators are extremly expensive. To make things cheaper, you could run a shaft across the bottom and run a motor to that to lift up the hatch. There are cheap, powerful motors out there. Plus you could gear one down a bit to have plenty of power. Better get another battery though. I know of a decent motor that is realtively cheap that would do that easy with 24V of power, but would prolly need to be geared at 12V. Plus it draws like 500 amps at stall or something. :-) Something to think about.(BTW, I am into Battlebots which is why I know about electric motors on the cheap)
hey thats cool......i was just thinking electric cause itd be a lot less lines to run...... wouldnt have to worry about tanks, hoses, hydralic fluid leakage......places to put the tanks....im over here thinking about real hydros and how much space they take up. so i dunno........in any event, i wanna know how the latch works at the top of the car.....the hinges are easy,......sad thing is i actually though about doing that about a year ago.....and doing the same with my hood...vete style.....hood would be a lot easier to do since wind resistance would be working for you instead of against you....would help hold the hood down...
THEN i thought about how impossible it would be to work on ANYTHING near the front of the engine heh...
