Through the Hood

I am not sure if this goes in here or the Exhaust post so feel free to move it Mods

I am wanting to make the pipes come out the hood. There would be 2 pipes. I was thinking of turning my headers upside down.

I am just wondering if I would melt my fiberglass hood and what can I do to prevent this? I have a early 80's stock fiber glass hood cut out where the luvers were. The air cleaner comes through. This is on the street 1 weekend a year and thats James Dean Days. Other than that it is strictly race.

I need some pics and anyone knows of any and some instructions from people that have down this.

Thanks guys!!

is this the car in your sig?

7400rpm for a stock rodded 350? are you stupid or do you just not care.

it doesnt look like your combo needs to be revved anywhere near that high, and you are most likely losing performance because of it.

i could be wrong.

I was just testing the car. Yeah its that car and I really dont care. Built the car my self and only have $1300 total in it. I can always rebuild it and I am getting a good deal on a 4bolt main and scat crank and rods. I am more than likely gonna shift at 6800 or 7000. I will just test my shift points when the car is done.

Also thats the only way of shifting to cross the traps under 8000. The gear are almost 2 much for it.

If you do that, don't ruin a perfectly good factory glass hood. Use a steel V6 hood or something. PLEASE!

i like the idea but poor execution so far.. first no v8 need to rev anywhere near 6500rpm ever unless ur nascar dude or oval track... most can churn out power in the 5500 range with out exploding a rod thru ur quarter panel.. and you dont car??? either ur rich, spoiled, or dont deserve that car. my car i got for $1100 doesnt mean ima go and crash it into tree cuz its not worth much.

edit: and if ur racing why do you have the 700r4 still?

you come off like you have a fair amount of money you can deal into this car.. save some by going to a chassis dyno and get dome read outs. shift into power ranges not the highest numbers you can reach b4 you hear pop

If you cut holes in your hood for zoomie style exhaust, you will officially surpass the red necks in the "raped a chevelle" thread on the street race board and be king of all red necks

hes only running 13's a 700 is fine for that if he has it properly built.(built it before you kill it) your over reving as others have said its a waste of power you dont have the valve train for it you will run better times with right rpm shifts than rev killing your engine, its not a vtech its got alot more recipricating mass in there.(and its got feelings too so dont say you dont care about it...j/k) and about the hood.....hmm i personaly dont think thats the best idea i mean wouldnt you get anoyed with looking at shaking pipes screaming in your face. it seems kinda pointless in my opinion. not to bash because i am open to all ideas but can i ask why?

I realize I was over reving the motor. That was for 2 racing last year. I am gonna tone it done and shift about 6500 or even 6000. Depending on which produces the best times. I realize that I have already trashed a glass hood so I just wanted to be different. I just thought it would look different. In a way I was just trying to "express" my self. To the people who helped me and everything, Thank you. To the people who bashed me.... well you know where that is going.

The 700r4 is not built either. It has held up this far so I am just using it until I get my Turbo 350 put in. I was running a 25.5 x 10" slick when I was shifting that high. I have so g-60 bias plys on there now that arnt going to hook so I have some 27x10x15 goodyears on the way and a buddy is shipping me 2 28x10x15 wrinkle wall drag slicks. I just wanted to see if the motor would take that high of a reving.

To all that helped me I am thinkful. This board has alot of useful info on it and I surf it everynight. Thanks guys....

even 6000 is to high for your motor. id be shifting somewhere aroun 5500 but still if your going through the lights at that rpm something is wrong. i dont think that those wrinkle walls will fit your car its gonna rub and then your in for some deep**** down the track

now dont be mean but seriously why do you want to run zoomie headers thats only for demo derby. ur gonna lose time if u do that due to 2 main factors more hot air and wind resistance what you want to do is cut out your fenders and do it that way.
if you want to lose weight you should take out all the seats and center console carpet and then take off your driver seat and sit on a bucket its much lighter o and seatbelts. if your a good driver you dont need no stinkin seat belts
