Built an electric water pump...

I just got done fabing one up. I used a heater motor and some custon pullies that I got from a buddy. They came off of a convaier (sp?) at his work. The pullies are ribbed so of course I used a small ribbed belt. I mounted the motor in where the alt. was. It is currently 1/2 rigged up because I am racing at the fun friday night tomorrow but I will make some brackets for it and mount it better later on.

I have some pics of the install but I don't know how to shrink the pics.... Can someone tell me how and I will post them.

Also I am not sure if the motor will burn up since it will be put through alot.

I dont know the amp rating. The motor gets hot when its running but holds up to the task. I did go through 2 switches though. I guess I need bigger switches. I have pics of the install but dont know how to shrink them. If someone could tell me I would post them. There are about 4 pics.

I'd suggest using relays instead of putting all that power through a switch.
To reduce your pictures, there should be an option to 'resize' or 'resample' the images when veiwed in your photo program.

Sounds like an awful risky system to trust to a homemade pump. If it went out you could have serious problems, even with a temp gage ( you dont always look at it). I think that it would be best to put some sort of kill switch on it, so that if it failed it would shut down the engine, that or install an LED in the dash, so you would know if it failed. Just my .02

I am going to install a led light so I know if something went wrong... I only use the car on the strip. It is trailed to and from so reliability isnt really an issue with me. I mean I only drive it a 1/4 mile at a time

I dont have an option to resize in my viewer... I guess I could send them to someone to host them or resize them for me. Any one care to help me out???

Thats cool, we were on the same track with the LED. Makes good sense to me if its a strip only car. How much does this cost in relation to a new electric pump?

It cost me nothing. I got the pullies from a buddy at his work and the belt also. The motor is just a heater motor so I used the one out of the car. The only thing I paid for is the wire and switch.
