8.8 ford swap
the 2.73 9 bolt in the car now had a loose pinion, I tightened it but it still sounds like a coffee grinder. I have an 8.8 ford rear with 3.73 gears and I have a 28 spline posi for the 8.8 too.
I can either fix the 9 bolt or make a new rear with the 9 bolt outer tubes, axles and use the 8.8 center. If I do the 8.8 I have to set up the new carrier and make a torque arm mount. The torque arm is no problem, but I'm not too sure about setting the new carrier in. The pinion is already in so half the work is done, will this be difficult?
Also, anyone know if the 8.8 pinion will be on a different center than the 9 bolt with the same axles? I guess it's the relationship of the splines in the side gears to the pinion center.
If I go with repairing the 9 bolt I'll probably have to throw lots of parts and money at it but I know everything will line up.
I also have a 28 spline 9 inch i could use but I don't have any good gears (3.25, 2.75) or posi for it. Anyone ever make a rear using a 9 inch center with the 9 bolt outers? The 9 inch is real easy to set up and it's a carrier type rear so I could have other carrriers set up with different gears.
9 bolt, 8.8, 0 inch. what should I do?
