AIR relocation?

i always hated that AIR box above the passenger valve cover. Also, being a person to have removed most the AC components, i thought to myself, what if i removed the AC box (the part against the firewall) and with that extra room, relocated the AIR box to that location? only problem i see is the metal tube running from the smog pump to the box. anyway to overcome this? cuz this would nicely open up the engine bay some.

wow, i thought when i thought of this it was an original idea! I'm not sure, but i think the only reason the tube from the pump is metal is because it also acts as a support. I am planning to fabricate a mount on the non-a/c box and run a rubber line to the smog pump. All the other rubber lines going in should be easy to re-route using some 90* fittings and new lines. Like you, my goal it to have the engine compartment as clean as possible while remaining completely emmisions legal. I'm tacking this project this coming winter and really don't see it being too difficult. The toughest line to re-route cleanly is the one that goes into the plenum. I'm going to try to extend it towards the passenger fender and back along the frame rail where the a/c lines were previously. Keep us updated if you start this soon and I'll be sure to post if i have anything to add.

thanks. I believe i will cut the metal pipe near each base and slide a rubber hose over it, reroute it somewhere.. i prolly wont start this soon, perhaps a month though.

If you do that before the check valve it'll melt the hoses pretty quick. It'll be getting the exhaust straight outta the valve blowing on it and transfering heat. After the check valve shouldn't be too much of an issue.
