Need to fix my fiberglass hood

Ive got some cracks on the nose & the corners are mesed up. What I need to know is:

1. Does the fiberglass that you buy in outopart stores will bond right to the hood or do I need a special type of compound.
2. what would the proses be? just dump some resin on the problem areas, wait till it dries and san the hell out of it. Or does it involves something else?
3. Do I have to sand & clean the area? what type of cleaner to use?
4. The hood hasnt been painted. its gray on top & black on the botom. Is the gray a primer?

Sorry for all the questions.

You'd probably get better answers in the "Body & Interior forum", but-

1. Yeah it'll work, also use the fiberglass mat for the strongest repair.

2. Clean the crack (they sell prep cleaners near the fiberglass and bondo). Take a drill and a small drill bit, and drill one 1/8th inch hole at each edge of the crack. This relieves stress so the crack doesn't spread further. Then, take sandpaper and bevel the edge of the crack; make the crack slightly wider and "V" shaped. Then use the fiberglass (and maybe the mat) to make your repair. You could also use the mat on the underside of the hood as reinforcement; it'd be less cosmetic sanding for you to do- as opposed to you putting the mat on the outside of the hood. After it dries and you sand it flat, use a tack rag (sticky cheesecloth, sold near sandpaper and bondo and fiberglass, you might have to hit a few parts stores to find it, or try http://www.eastwoodcompany.com ) to remove all dust. Primer won't stick to dust! Then do a wipedown/rinse again with the cleaner spray. Then shoot your primer.

3. Whoops, already covered that in 2, but mineral spirits or the cleaner they sell in the parts stores will do fine. Just follow the directions and rinse the area off with water when you're done. Dry it with a cotton (or otherwise lint-free) cloth.

4. I don't know enough to answer, but it's probably primer. When you're done, PAINT THE HOOD! I can't stand unpainted fiberglass hoods. Just bustin' on ya, but it does drive me nuts.
