parachutes on a 3rd gen
i am going to be installing a parachute on my 3rd gen this winter due to the fact that i will be hitting 130 MPH + in the qtr and would like the additional safety just in case. Does anyone have pictures of some third gen camaros or firebirds with them on. Also theres not much steel back there to actually attach it to any ideas???

I don't have any pics, sorry. You are correct that there isn't much structure back there to tie into, do you have SFC's? those are a definite must have before you go much beyond stock. Now to tie in the 'chute, If you're going to bet your life on it, which is the only reason for having it, you must tie into the "frame" created by connecting the subframes with sfc's.
I suggest a "K" type frame, tied in to both rear "Frame Rails" in two points on each side. this needs to be done by a professional welder, who understands weld penetration and cleanliness.
If you are really gonna do this, let me know, and I'll help you finalize a safe design.

Here's a pic, albeit from a back-halved 4th gen Camaro:
The parachute mount crossbar attaches to the new frame that has been fabricated on this car, but on a non-back-halved car it should go to the bumper mounts. The single tube is the only part that pokes through the rear fascia, where a removeable pack mount bracket and cord anchor will be attached, via a quick disconnect fastener. The cord anchor point height is very important - too high and it will want to pull your front tires off the ground when the chute blossoms. Too low, and it will try to pull the rear tires off the ground.

i currently have SFC, all Spohn suspension and an 8 point cage which will be a 10 point over winter while i put the chute on. i was thinking some sort of a rear corssmember can you draw somethign up etc for me to see what exactly are you thinking in terms for that design? id liek the most reliable and also yeast revealing of tubing i know i have to cut a hole in the bumper but other than that i dont want much open

I can get some pics of mine... Actually some exist on the web...anyway I obviously had a 10 point cage done and SFC's linking from front to rear..
We removed forever the rear bumper>>>bumper itself not the cover... anyway we made a special bent piece of chromoly tube welded to beefy pads... this assembly bolted in place of the bumper>>>>later welded on as well for extra stregnth...this all ties into the rear unitbody bars..>> which tie into the SFC's and front unitbody...
Anyway it came FLUSH with the center of the license plate...then My outer chute mount with the plate and all slide into this chromoly bar almost like a trailer hitch if you will.... then bolt in place..
The idea is since mine is a street/strip car I have a piece of tube that my license plate bolts to...for track I both the chute in...for street I take the chute off and pop the plate on>>> all holes hidden..
These pics are when the fabricators roughed it all in>>>Ie before it was Nice looking..
