Okay, my bad...

I didn't know that, but last Time I removed a fender it felt a lot heavier than 12 pounds.

I wonder if anyone makes them out of that plastic polymer like the stock fenders on 4th gens?

Front and rear bumpers are coming off today, being replaced with light weight steel tubing I found in my neighbors backyard I'll get my welder tommorow and fab the ish up. That should put me at my goal of 2,8XX.

I gave up on the weight saving garbage, I like the creature comforts too much and a bigger engine will do the trick for me.

Notice that huge battery in you engine bay? Yiu can save up to 8 pounds by getting a smaller battery. If you have drum rear brakes you can sae almost 3lbs by swapping to aluminum drums, Power antenas weight a good 5 lbs. If you wanted to go crazy some racers claim 1/8 lb drop from changing chrome lug nuts to standard replacment type.

well...i used to use alot of armor all....but after relizing how much weight that added i stopped...i droped 2 tenths off my 1/4 time...

My brother sprays the tires of his VW with that shiny spray stuff/new tire shine. Only he does it in my driveway right in front of my garage. Next thing I know i'm flat out on my *** looking up at the sky. Use cardboard under the wheels when you do this and save lives and back pain.

i ran with out ps and with a factory box. keeps girls and pu**y 285lb friends from driving it.great for self inflicted mastabatory exercise perposes. my 88 camaro sport coupe weighed exactly 3201 with out me in it and with all acces. and jack spare tire, ect. my 88gta weghed exactly 3515 with out me in it all stock. 300 lbs. wtf?!?!? where? the camaro was all power options. again wtf?!?!? my frickin gta is a damn pig. well was a pig it weghes around 3300 now. need to get to a scale agian. was 3380 about 100lbs ago.

All depends if it is used on the street as to if it is worth it. I have a car that I am pondering on the idea of manual brakes. Although it is a strip only car.

NHRA rules state that full body cars must have brakes for each wheel. So if you wanted to race on a sanctioned track, you must have 4 wheel brakes.

One thing to keep in mind is drum brakes are typically lighter and less prone to drag (if adjusted properly) than factory style disk brakes.

assuming the entire interior minus drivers seat and dash is 100lbs id be in the 2700s with out me in it. id really like to get a lexan hatch, aluminum heads, fiberglass decklid, ls1 gas tank and coil overs and remove another 150ish lbs and be in the 2500s!

is ur car a stick? the T5 weighs A LOT less then a 700r4, almost 5% more power to the wheels.

all the HVAC components weigh a good bit, there is a metal brace at the bottom of the dash thats weighs around 5 lbs, the cat back weighs 50 lbs, maybe run open cat/ y pipe with just a turn down.

just noticed u have nitrous, if ur running NA passes take the bottle out it weighs a good 25lbs doesnt it?

remember that 1 pound of rotating weight = 10 lbs of dead weight, so try an allum drive shaft and alum rear drums if you do not have rear disk brakes.

Replace all your non-load bearing nuts/bolts with hollow aluminum ones.

Remove the heavy sub frame connectors and seam-weld the cars frame.

Well what the 240 guys here that focus mainly on drifting do is instead of actually following all the seam welds with wire, they do small 1" sections of welds along the seams. Amazing difference, and alot lighter than sub frame connectors and bracing.

tape player, console (other than shifter) speakers, speaker wire, I think there is some suspension company that makes a ton of parts that weigh a total of 15lbs (like 68lbs less than stock)

if its a strip car, use an electric water pump, lose some weight and free up some horsepower, now back to the nose, you can switch out your radiator, for a smaller lighter aluminum one, mini-starter less weight and way more efficient and i got a set of cragar sst's that will lighten that bad boy right up. lol serious about the ssts if someone is interested let me know

That rear hatch is HEAVY. I almost killed myself when I took it loose while sitting on the "hump" trying to realign it. I would guess about 100lbs easy. You could always buy some GTA wheels too, aren't they the lightest stock wheels? They sure as heck weigh less than my 15" steelies. Get rid of ALL of the A/C stuff (good for 10 lbs or so, maybe more). I'm curious as to how much the rear folding seat/asspads and passenger seat weigh.

I think the hatch weighs closer to 200 pounds.Whenever I get done working on the house, (Ah, the joys of owning a home!!)
I'll get the notchback on the car, then I'll weigh the stocker.
The Butt-bisciuts weigh about 15 pounds apeice, and the back weighs about 30 pounds.
What screws me, is that the heaviest thing in my car, is my Carcass. I weigh about 350#

I've been told the rear glass weights 75 pounds. I'd be willing to believe the complete rear hatch weighs around 100 pounds.

Are you trying to say the rear seat bottoms weigh 15 pounds each?!? Try about a third of that. If you're saying the front seats are 15 pounds each...they are closer to 20.

Also the rear seat back doesn't weigh 30 pounds, I don't remember the exact figure but I'm certain mine was noticibly less than 30 pounds. The complete rear seat "assembly" (both bottoms and the back) are about 30 pounds total.

If you search under my name, I posted up about a year ago the exact weight of the complete hatch assembly when I had it off a car. I think I also weighed just the decklid by itself.

I'm pretty sure it can be done, I don't know if I'll be able to do it now that I've been bitten by the "Rat Bug". I'm really thinking about going Big Block, but with a small block, aluminium heads and intake, Fiberglass hood, hatch and doors, tube K Member and Control arms, Lexan widows,Maual Rack and pinion, and Coilovers all the way around, you'd be pretty light.

Be sure to email me on it when you do. I've been removing mass from my car for a few years now, so I'm genuinely interested in seeing how others are doing.

FWIW, I've removed A/C, converted to a 13.4 pound Genesis battery, switched to aluminum bumper support, and built a motor with aluminum heads and aluminum accessories. I've spent extra money for Chromoly roll tubing, and have a fiberglass hood on order. I'm swapping out my heavy Spohn adjustable crossmember and torque arm for a less massive custom design. I've bought composite race seats, and my road race tires weigh only 35 pounds per corner, including the aluminum wheel. I've converted to a lightweight Fidanza flywheel to reduce reciprocating weight. The seats come out on race day. I've got a set of Lexan T-tops.

I've also got a custom aluminum power steering pump that weighs only 2.2 pounds that I need to install next winter.

So, my "pig" as you call it, isn't as piggy as you may think, and it's getting lighter each and every year. However, it isn't that easy for me: I am also increasing power each year. This spring I expect to dyno at 400+ RWHP. In the fall, RWHP should jump to a peak of 550 RWHP, if everything goes as planned, so that means adding more weight back into the car with a 12-bolt rear axle and heavy duty driveshaft.

Were did you get lexan t- tops? I would like to pick some up. I pulled out all carpet, rear bumper, front sway bar, AC, heater, power stearing,passenger seat,super victor intake,fiberglass hood. now its weighs 3,055. With out me in it.

yup the T56 is a lot heavier then T5. the T5 is 75ish lbs i believe. t56 is 135 or so.

well when u originally said 3550 w/o driver, that is a bit on the heavy side. if that was before any reduction was done that ur car must be a lot lighter now.

Were did you get lexan t- tops?
Junkyards, classifieds, or ebay. They came stock on many of the thirdgen years, and you can usually find them for cheap. We sold a set last year for $45 plus shipping and they were claimed up in a matter of hours.
