Camaro Tunnel Work

Hi I'm looking at an 84 camaro, But to do what I want to with it I know I need tunnel work-and I don't know how to go about it. If someone here knows about tunnel work please explain to me what needs to be done for me to put a T-56 6 speed transmission in the car, and a 454 big block.

The tech guy from Richmond Transmission told me tunnel work would have to be done in order for the transmission to fit, because the origional tranmission sits at an angle due to a torque bar.

T56 into a 3rd gen needs no "tunnel work" Fits right in without any problems.......not sure about the big block though....might want to check with some of the guys that have done it to see if there are any clearance problems with the firewall.

they are right about the angle of the transmission. did he tell you that they make an adapter plate that you need to use also that will allow you to use a lakewood shield.

My LT1 T56 fit with a little trim job, most people just slide them into place with no problems. The tranny I put in was hitting by the shifter area so you might have to use a grinder or a hammer it's not that big of deal though it was maybe 1/2" strip of metal that was in the way.

I'd consider using a Tremec TKO behind that big block, depending on how serious the engine is. Is that camaro a manual transmission car? It's a pain to convert over to a hydraulic clutch, almost easier just to start with a 5speed car right from the start.
