The distributor is at the rear, and the alternator is at the front. I don't think water coming thru the hood will be an issue.

Worst case scenario is that water builds up around the intake manifold, which turns into steam as the engine warms up.

I think these louvres are a great idea, although I'm still considering better ways to mount a set when I buy them.
But as you say, I won't do the garbage bag thing anyway cause engines get wet in the rain anyway. That's why our Underhood sound guards are always filthy. 😎

I saw a Dodge Hellcat (707HP) today and was checking out the supercharger and hood. It has 2 functional vents on the front half of the hood. Totally open to the engine compartment with no drip tray. I was surprised but they don't see it as an issue at all obviously.

So I've decided to stop being concerned in the slightest

Re: Ever think about making IROC hood louvers functional?

HI All,
Just wanted to let you know that due to an extreme lack of time (Due to my real job) I have available to the building, powder coating and shipping of these, I am not going to be offering the louvers for sale once the current inventory is depleted.

So once they're gone - they're gone!

My remaining inventory is:

Low Profile Smooth = 8
Low Profile Textured = 2
Aggressive Smooth =2
Aggressive Textured = 3

Carbon Fibre Hydro Dipped (Blue Tinge) = 1
Skull Hydro Dipped = 1
Carbon Fibre Hydro Dipped (Grey Tinge) = 1
** All of the custom hydro dipped are low profile.**

Thanks for your interest and the overwhelmingly positive feedback!

I did these for my GTA, work great removing excess heat from the engine compartment.

Yea, I saw them in another thread, what are those louvers, or did you make them?

Yes. I build and sell them. But I'm also ceasing production due to lack of time. Www.camarolouvers.com.

Hi Mark, if you were refering to the ones in the GTA they were made out of thin ga#18 stainless steel, laser cut. They are durable, strong, crack free and rust free

Lately I've been toying with the idea of removing the louvers on my camaro hood and converting them to a set of extractors like you have in the center of your hood. I would be following the body lines of the original louvers if I decide to do this. Can you please post up or PM me some pics of the underside of your hood and any water deflection setup you have under there? I'm guessing water deflection isn't much of a concern on yours though since it looks like your primarily set up for racing. Also, are you running TPI or a carb? I'm wondering if the extractors will interfere with the TPI intake?

The whole front in my GTA gas been modified; radiator and support have been relocated and inverted from stock position, if you do the extractors make sure they do not hit something below. I personally dont think is doable in the same place I did mine with a stock engine compartment. My hood is also custom made, is made out of a thin layer of fiberglass and held by pins, no hinges.

Here is one pics when the quad turbo kit was being made and installed, but shows how I arranged the radiator and fans.

If you don't mind me asking, did you box in below the radiator and/or move the air dam back?
Or are you running without an air dam but depend only on the fans and hood extractors to pull air through?

Thanks for the pics. I was assuming you weren't running a stock style intake on that. You mentioned the hood hinges, and that is another area I was concerned with. Years ago I installed a hinge from an older buick and the hood opens to the front now, like a Corvette. So that may cause some interference issues if I decide to go with an extractor style hood like yours.

Yep, I've been following the pics of them in the various threads on here. While they look fantastic, they are a bit out of my price range. I'm also a bit concerned with water infiltration as I'm currently running a carb with an open element air cleaner and I daily drive my camaro in the summer, rain or shine. I will eventually swap in a TPI setup once I get my vortec heads redone, which should help with the water concerns, but it's probably going to be awhile till I do that.
