subframe repair
The subframe around the tranny xmember is rotted. I was just wondering if anyone out there has had this problem and if so what you did about it. I really don't want to scrap this body just for that as this is the only thing wrong with it.

well... you will have to cut out the damaged section and replace it with a section cut from a non-rusty car. adding additional bracing might be a good idea as the graft may not be as strong as the original solid piece. i am of course reffering to SFCs.
My Sons first car had the same problem. We cut out the rust then cut a piece of square tubing to fit. Cut out the back of the square tubing so it was more like a piece of channel iron then drilled for the transmission mount holes and welded nuts inside the channel. Then welded it solid into the car. If you are not a welder or don't have a good welder do the fabrication yourself then take it to a welder and get them to weld it in. It will be better than new.

I've fixed one where the extra forces placed on it by a t56 crossember caused it to crumble and fall appart... ended up stitching the stock stuff back together and then welding some reenforcement onto it...
