I'm also interested in how you got it to sit so straight, my gauge panel cut out doesn't want to line up very well because of the shape of the original dash.

i had to trim the dash bezel down so it would sit straight, cause if not, it would be angled down.

i just made the panel out of 16 guage steel, then hooked all the guages up. if you can read instructions and cut metal, it's VERY easy to do.

im just starting to look into aftermarket gauges again...i havnt tackled it yet but it just takes time and patience. after what ive done with my car i feel i can tackle anything.

i dont want to spend $600 plus on gauges though, does anyone know of some other companys that make matching speedos, tachs, and the others like VDO etc?

I purchased a VDO Millenium set without the tach for 280 dollars plus 13 shipping from e Bay, the tach was 70 extra. I'm VERY satisfied with these gauges, the speedometer in the millenium set can be set to work with the factory VSS which I wish I would have done instead of using the unit that came with it. One annoying thing is hanging the fuel level sender unit. Camaro gas tanks are baffled and I broke one of the legs on my tank hanger putting it in. Looking back I wish I had gotten Auto Meters that worked with the GM sending units but live and learn. Overall I'm very satisfied with these gauges, I plan to grind down the gauge bezel and replace my wooden plate with a stell CNC'd plate (it's nice to have friends in the metal working trade). Good luck with your install.

So the VDO fuel level won't work with the stock GM sender like the 0-90 OHM Autometers? The Vision and Cockpit series fuel level gauges from VDO both operate on 0-90 OHM's which is stock GM from like 65-95 (or something like that).

Not a problem, I have to replace my fuel pump again anyway but its just one more custom thing to go wrong...

mw66nova, how do you like that steering wheel? I’ve always liked how those look but have also always wondered how long they’ll last and how good they feel after some driving with their fake leather grips…

i've had two of them now, the first one was in my 1989 rally sport. with ps, it was a nice wheel, though it was a little small and made my guages kinda hard to see, but that was with factory guages and i just moved the guages i wanted to see away from the steering wheel area when i put my aftermarket ones in, like this(not the best picture, but the best i could do)

the second one was the one in the first picture i posted. i liked the way it looked, but it made seeing my tach (and shiftpoint) difficult...steering with the little wheel was made nearly impossible though when i put in the manual steering and was the breaking point for the steering wheel...i sold it to a buddy of mine with a mustang (which i ended up driving for over a month...liked the wheel again once it was back on a car with ps). now i have a stock 1987 camaro LT wheel in it. the wheel looks ok, but i'd like to go with something aftermarket again...maybe a 14" version of the grant gt wheel.

I was going to suggest the 14"... what I realy want is something that looks like my stock firebird wheel but has a grip/rim like the newer vette wheels... add some easy way to add some paddle shift buttons and I'd be thrilled...
