No such thing as a mini tub on a third gen. The inner fenders are already at the "frame rails". The closest thing to a third gen mini tub is to remove the bump stops and plate over the opening. Cut out and enlarge the front inside corner to allow a taller tire.

There's pics on my web site of my ladder bars.

is there any way to tub it out without cutting out the rear frame rails?

The so called frame rails on a third gen are multiple layers of sheet metal since the car is a unibody. You can't remove them without adding some sort of rear frame section. Making the front and rear part on the factory wheel tubs more square on the inside corners to allow a taller tire is the best you can do. Here's roughly what you need to do to get a bigger tire under the fenders. This isn't my car but mine has been similarly done. I have a 29.5 x 10.5 ET Drag under my fenders mounted on a 10" rim with 5.5" backspace.

what im trying to do is run a class where back-halfs are not allowed.... however i want o fit the biggest Drag Radial under it i can, and i want it to tuck under nicely. i might do something similar to the pic above except cut out the wheel well to sit the car over the tire.. btw i have a shortened moser 12 bolt with ladder bars.. any suggestions?

You don't "need" to back half a third gen. As I mentioned above, my tire is 10.5" wide (tread width, not a DOT tire) and I'm running high 9's. My plans are to do a back half to stuff bigger tires under the car just to get more consistant traction. I don't really need to do it but I'm starting to run quick enough where I just about have to just to stay consistant.

There's cars running low 8 second 1/4 miles on a 10.5" slick.

we have a 79 camaro at the shop that has been 7.90 flat at 178mph on a true 10.5 tire. my car will run low 9's and it has to be on a drag radial. i wana try to fit atleast a 315 under it if i can.. dont know if trimming it a little bit like in the pic is guna be good enough

Stephan, do you have any pics of your car with those tires on it? A 10” rim with 5.5” backspacing should stick out a little with some wide tires.

This is when I had some Goodyear slicks. I think these were 29x10's.

Both of these pics were at the start of the 2006 season with the 29.5 x 10.5's on the same rims. I've run 15 x 10 rims with 5.5 backspace for many years. I started using them with 28 x 9 slicks. I need to take a picture of these tires/rims beside the new ones that I want to put under the car

I have to admit that those look like they fit pretty well, better then most 15x10’s with 5.5 backspacing that usually look like they stick out some. I’d still rather see them tucked in another ½”. How much did you have to modify the insides to fit a 29.5x10.5? Is it at stock ride height or higher?

My inner fender modifications are very similar to the first above picture. V6 springs in the rear but the rear weight is only 1234 pounds since the rear window is Lexan and much more weight has been removed. I don't know what the factory ride height or mine is.

My axle is also set back about an inch. You can't really see it but the rear part of the fender lips have been cut off with a reciprocating saw just forward of the VP decal. If it wasn't for the tire growth at 140 mph, I wouldn't have needed to trim off so much fender. The inner and outer panels were then pinched together and filled with a body caulking to fill the gap. If the axle was in the stock position, I would need more front inner fender clearance. Squeezing that big of a tire under the fenders needs a lot more modifications than a typical street car would want to do.

My tires are off now so I should be able to get some of my own inner fender modification pictures.

My front rims are 15 x 3-1/2". There's only one backspace option available for a skinny rim so whatever Weld lists it at is what I have.

yes any 15x3.5 to 15x5 rim will fit with whatever the factory backspacing is.

For the track I have Hoosier 29x9 slicks on Centerline 8.5" with 5.5bs. I had to remove the bumpstops and trim the mount pad back flush with the inner fender and tweak the front inner fender section as mentioned above with a hammer. I also have an old school stance with the rearend slightly raised(air bags). The only other issue was the e-brake cables rubbing the tire on the inside..fixed with zip ties.
