Ok, ever since I saw this picture, it's gotten me into a craze about doing this with a V8 version.

Only, I was thinking maybe a PVC setup painted black instead of an orange tube lol

Only problem is...there's no where near the amount of space on a V8 like there is on a 6.

What needs to be done to be able to pull this off?

Any ideas would be lovely.

Not to be a jerk but why? Especially on a V8, it is just going to be in the way when you need to work on the motor.

yea, why?

I'm not trying to be a jerk either but.

that little V6 in the picture has enough hot air capacity for a small turbine engine. Pointless clutter IMHO. that goes on my list of mods with shopping cart wings, blue led washer squirters, and el-farto mufflers.

Going from a slick, out of the way, CAI, to a intrusive, hot air intake....
Going to have to fill me in on the reasoning....? Just for the look of the visible filters?

but you have to think, not everyone cares about performance, as long as it looks good. one way you could modify it would to be relocate the battery to the rear, and run the tubes to either sides where the battery trays go, and run the filters there. it would look good and be effective, but be a PITA if you did have to work on it, but if you're going for more of a show car, then you probably wouldnt be taking things apart to often unless its a POS and breaks all the time.

Ok, first off, let me ask, will there be any real noticable loss to power?
In my opinion, an intake similar to the one pictured looks a heck of alot less restrictive then the one that's on my 87 GTA right now. Yes it may be hotter air, but it isnt having to go through a plastic box with sharp twists and bends in it.

Also, the intake in the picture looks very easy to take off if needed, just loosen the clamp and unplug the MAF and pop, off it is. (Sure beats having to rip out the big black box and screws.

My car is a daily driver, but it is a very nice daily driver, my car is also very much performance oriented and I plan to show the car again as soon as the last few things are done to it.

If you look around someone on here has a setup that i think slp sold that has tubes that do that but go all the way down towards the fenders.

i combined a lt-1 elbow a ported maf a turbonetics 4-3" reducer and used 4" mandrel bent pipe to a k&n. i removed the apron panel where the old air box was to make room for the filter. that worked good and looks like and lt1 with an intake tube basicially the the moroso kit.

yes i will try to post them by the 30th, is that cool ? the most time consuming part as radiusing the pvc collar that goes onthe maf ends to blend seamlessly into the maf body. what the best image size for this board for clear image?

alright, ive decided to scrap this idea,

One, for the lack of space.

two, dont wanna pay for another K&N filter, $$$

Gonna make a better version of the stock intake, aka, no plastic box, just a straight shot with one 90* turn

here it is..
Ok, this is what will be replacing my plastic, boxy 87 intake:

This "should" flow better then the stock one

That stupid radiator hose keeps getting in the way so I have to go UNDER them, I hate a cluttered engine bay.

the only draw back about usingpvc and couplers is they can cause reversion since nothing there is a smooth connection pull the filter off and look through it. just my .2, been down that road before

here's what my old shitty looking set-up looked like. I have basicly the same set-up for now until I find some money to buy the ram air box that could have came with my hood. My set-up would have worked better if I had speed density over MAF.

Ok, since making my intake,

I finally got it put on my car...

From the first time out driving with it, I could actually FEEL an increase in throttle response, and, I can DEFINATELY tell a difference in how hard the motor pulls at higher speeds, maybe I picked up a couple HP, i dont know, but besides all that, I can actually see the front of my motor now.......next step, chrome pullies!!

I spent les then $20 making this intake, and my god was it worth it.

Say what you want about it, but im proud of what I made.

I'll have my intake that I'm workin on put together by the 7th. I'll put some pics up.

Basically I got a 3"-3" silicon connector off ebay for $6 to connect the piping to the throttle body and a 3 1/2" - 3", for another $6 on ebay to connect the MAS to the piping and a filter that fits over the end of the MAS. I'm gonna get a 3" 90* mandrel pipe from a local exhaust place, told me they'd charge me about $20 to get a 2 foot piece with a 90* bend right in the middle. Figure I'll have some room to cut and whatever.

So basically I'll have the same thing goin. Altogether it'll come to about $55 for it all so I'm happy. Pretty basic. The only thing I'm gonna have a problem with is I plan to have the MAF and it's little angle on the end pointing downward towards the smog stuff but that leave the wiring plug pointing up, so I think I'm gonna try to cut the angle off of it, unless it will twist, I'm not sure, and reconnect it somehow so it'll be pointing downward and the wiring will still be comming off the side. Anyone have suggestions on how to do that a better way? Will the angle on the end twist?

Now that you have the setup layed out take it to a muffler shop and have them mandrel bend you a 3 inch pipe [theres no need to go bigger because your maf is only 3 inch so it would be pointless]and go to auto-zone and get a nice coupler not a pvc one and it will work better and look way better if you polish it or powder/paint it.....good luck

this is a better of shot the elbow i'm using now, i had 3" pipe before with a ported maf and a stock elbow , all because the maf is 3" doesnt mean the pipe has to be, think about volume, it may not matter with a stock motor... but my car would just sit there and mak a loud sucking sound from the filter, and when cracked the throttle it would "gulp" kinda then rev, after making something with more volume the hissing was gone and my motor had instantaneous throttle response. look at an lt-1 car's set up the maf i.d. isnt much bigger but look at how much larger the ducting before and after the sensor.
and i relocated my iat to a much cooler(temp wise) spot.
any how i like your black and chrome look under the hood
