Propless hood?

So my dad got a Hyundai Sonata, and it's hood doesn't use a prop rod. It uses hydraulics, but I don't know the specifics, he won't let me get a "good look" if you know what I mean. I'm just curious to know if this has ever been done before, as I think it'd look pretty neat on a Camaro.

Umm... Camaros don't use prop rods either.

Hood struts are cheap. Why would you waste time on a hood prop? I'm in Canada and they are like $17 each.

I was hoping he meant 2nd gen camaro style, no rod, no gas strut. Just that funny round spring dealy. THAT'S neat. It doesn't wear out like a strut, etc. Probably a reason why it was phased out tho.... Anyone?

Well the hood strut/hinge assemblies are much lighter, the stock spring/hinge assembly on my '74 weighed in at 13 lbs a piece . The spring hinges also get rusty over time and make it a chore to lift the hood, but that could be prevented with good greasing.

Would that be a third-generation Hyundai?
