12bolt Truck rear axle ?'s

Is there any drawbacks compared to using the pass. car 12bolt rear?

I've got the truck rear axle here already and i'd be buying custom axles/shortening/cclip elim.'r's/gears/locker/brakes no matter if I used the car or truck 12bolt so- is there any good reason I shouldn't use the truck housing? weight difference, strength, something w/ the bearings, will it suck more hp compared to the car housing? Those are about the only things I can think of. Any help much appreciated!

Re: 12bolt Truck rear axle ?'s

The G80 truck locking type is weaker than a car clutch type. If i had my choice between a 10-bolt clutch rear and a 12 bolt locking type.......I take the 10-bolt clutch.

All of the 12 bolt locking truck rears I played with were replaced with 10 bolts after they broke. It all depends on what the internals are in that 12 bolt you have and how much you beat it.

The truck 12 bolt ring and pinion is different than a car's 12 bolt. It has a much smaller and weaker diameter pinion.
