Twin Turbo the V8 Questions

I have my eye on a twin turbo kit for my 84 V8. I would like to know if anyone has had success with this. The kit is set up for fuel injection as far as i know. To install this on a carbureted car what must be done if anything? And how difficult will it be for me to make this kit fit?
Thank you,
Richie

^ It's never really a question of if it will work, because it more than likely will if installed correctly. The real question however, is always, how good will it work, and for how long....

Thank you,
Richie, build your turbo specifically tailored to your car already, Click Here, just adapt it to your existing method of air and fuel delivery....

Re: Twin Turbo the V8 Questions

If you're going to buy a kit, you should buy a complete kit. There are no manifolds with that kit so custom exhaust manifolds need to be built. That's beyond the ability of many people because a turbo manifold is not the same as a header. The picture showing it installed on the engine shows a 2 into 1 pipe on the throttle body but that piece isn't shown in the kit. There's also another hose going off that piece to somewhere and that part isn't show as part of the kit. It could be the blowoff valve described in the text of the listing.

You're buying 2 turbos, universal intercooler, oil lines, universal intercooler pipes and a blowoff valve. Nothing in that package is built specifically for a third or fourth gen f-body like the listing says. It's a universal twin turbo kit that you need to fabricate to make it work on your car. It doesn't even come with a reprogrammed chip or anything else like that to allow the TPI to use the boost.

For someone with good fabrication skills, the kit is probably a real good deal but for someone who wants a bolt on kit, they'll be wasting their money on something they can't use.

Turbos and carbs are more successful as a blow through design. Some people have had success on a suck through by mounting the carbs at the turbo inlet but it's hard to do.

With a blow through design, completely enclosing the carb in a pressurized box is the most efficient but many simply build a hat over the carb inlet to feed the pressurized air through the carb.

Re: Twin Turbo the V8 Questions

whatever you do if you buy the turbo manifold off ebay they will need to be rewelded and are garbage. now for the rest i would recomend a name brand blow off valve, instead of going front mount (less efficent) buy stock audi vmount intercoolers. use a manual boost controller, run a oil cooler set up and run the the turbo lines from there. as far as turbo's go you would have to figure out what size is right for your motor. it will take alot of fabrication to get a twin turbo set up to work right and please take into consideration all the other fabrication you will have to do.
