Formula hood vent
Hi,
I notice that when I take off the block-off plate on my 89 formula 350 tpi, alot of heat escapes out near the back. I think this is a good thing, helps cool the plenum and runners- helps preserve the paint on the hood - etc. I'm just careful not to shoot water in there when washing it.
Does anyone make a louvered or mesh-type replacement for that block-off plate?
I don't want to try to modify mine, but keep it in case I want it stock again in the future.
I figure I could buy some mesh material and cut one out with some tin-snips, but first wanted to explore this board for other ideas.
regards,
-Brent

I know of the 82/83 style hoods that were functional they came with mesh screens. If you can find one of those hoods you could scavange one from there. If not, I'd try eBay or make your own. HTH

It makes a big difference letting heat out, if you have that rubber hood seal on the rear of your hood, it doesn't let water in but also doesn't heat out. I noticed a difference. I purchased mine off ebay years ago.

Re: Formula hood vent
My '84 Trans Am uses engine vacuum to close the flap anytime the engine is not at full throttle. Not helpful. So, the '70 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 had a setup to control it's hood flap electrically, there was a thing on the carb for the kickdown of the TH400, but it got installed even with the Muncies.
Anyway, any of the restoration parts companies that have stuff for this car might be able to help you modify an '82-'84 hood to be electric instead of vacuum. Then you set it up to be closed except when energized by a switch in the car. Add a switch wherever you like, run the wiring. It'll be closed whenever you're away from the car, and you can close it the second it starts raining.
