They look great! Good job.
I am going to build a set sometime in the near future, whenever time allows. Probably this winter. You have given me some great ideas. Im not going quite as strong as yours, but this thread will be a huge help. Great build pics along the way. Thanks

those last pics just made me wanna start my own ground up car again! nice work, now lets see em in the car!
Re: Sub frames (final design and build)
WOW those do look nice! Great Job!
I was having problems trying to figure out how to tie the SFC's to the roll cage so I made post off the SFC and tied the roll bar hoops into the post. It ended up sandwhiching the floor pan between the SCF's and the main cage. Worked out pretty good..

I think those things would probably be the only thing left if your house was ground zero for a nuclear bomb.... I think they might make the car a wee bit stiffer. Great job!

Re: Sub frames (final design and build)
thats amazing that they weigh the exact same despite taking different paths on the contour of the car...
then again, i guess you planned it that way...
great job.
you might consider welding a plate to the part that hugs the floor and has so many bends.
if you welded a plate to the outer surfaces it would strengthen it a lot.
im not sure how strong it would need to be or how much stress that area would have, but its something to think about.
if you can give me some semi accurate plans and where you made cuts ect, i can try and model them in solid works... this would let me find any weak spots or stress concentration spots and you could add extra metal where its needed.
might be more work than you want to do but just one more thing to think about i guess.
what i would need is essentially a piece by piece drawing or list with angles lengths and stuff like that...

nice job man. looks like you incorporated some aspects of the UMI subframe connectors. I had every intention of making my own, until i got the UMI's as a present when i graduated from college.

Re: Sub frames (final design and build)
I'd pay $300 for your set. It is definitely worth the $200 every other company lists theirs' at and that's just for the outside set SFC's. This includes the inner workings as well and tie's them all together. This set is kind of like buying UMI and Alston's, then tying both of them together in the middle. GREAT GREAT GREAT WORK, Tony the Tiger would be proud. I plan to get an 8pt cage as well when I do my SFC's and floor pans.

Re: Sub frames (final design and build)
I'm going to copy these, or most of these. By far the best set I have seen. the rest doesn't even come close. I'll probably have the bowed section rolled so it's easier to fab up without having to do all the angle cuts.

i dont see anything that looks like UMI, i guess the only thing that resembles them is the overlap on the steel tubes on the passnerside outter subframe. nice lucky you, UMI makes good stuff Thread Starter

That's some really great looking work!!!!! Should tie the car up quite nicely, I would think! Doing a similar thing on mine, but I won't clutter up your thread with my stuff. Just new on here, sure don't want to step on anyone's toes..... Anyway, great work!!!

Re: Sub frames (final design and build)
Another thing to add.....
It sure is good to see someone out there designing, thinking, and fabricating their own parts!!!!! Bolt ons are ok...to a point.. Most are designed with a "one size fits all" mindset.... when building your own components and pieces you're able to customize and tweak things around, maybe change an angle here or add a gusset there to make the mod work better for you and your specific application!!!!
Good job so far Fueled---now keep it going and get that old Gen III to be EXACTLY what you want it to be and not a carbon copy of everyone else's!!!!!!!
Go for it, dude!!!!!!!

Re: Sub frames (final design and build)
Anyway back to the subframes.
The
14ga 2x1" rectangular tubing is 1.600 Weight per lineal foor
There was 94" of tubing used to make both inner subframes.
= 12.53 lbs total weight
The
14ga 2.25" rectangular tubing is 1.882 Weight per lineal foor
There was 124" of tubing used to make both outter subframes.
= 19.45 total weight
(combined total weight so far 31.98 lbs)
Here is how they look under the car now.

I plan to tie both inner and outer sub frames together like this.

LMFAO, here I am playing along reading the posts, and I see this!! That's MY GTA you're drawing on, lol. That was a while ago. I want royalties for using my images. I'll accept payment with a set of those schnazzy subframe connectors you're building there, lol.
Great job, can't wait til you post pics of them installed. I can supply alot of great pictures of these cars stripped if you have any other ideas you'd like to work on. Youre giving me ideas!
Cheers,
-Brad.

Re: Sub frames (final design and build)
First off, allow me to commend you on such an amazing fabrication. You have skill, determination and knowledge that many of us desire.
My question is why so many of the SFC have a bolt on aspect at the LTA.
I want to put SFC on my mild engined 86 IROC but I think it would be simpler just to make SFC's identical to the ones above this post and not bolt onto the LTA but rather just weld it alongside the mounting box.
So my question is, would not making to box that bolts to the LTA remove alot of the structural integrity of the design?
Thanks for all your input!
