There may be a video of it leaving thirdgen fest from 2010. But I'm not sure, I will look.

Re: Mid-engine Third Gen?

Indeed there is. its not a true WOT clip. But you can get a sense of the sound from that.

Wow! Someone figured out how to make 4thgens even uglier!

1978 HotRod magazine did a story on a mid engine Olds 442. Information is available online. I still have the issue around here somewhere.

Dave Wolcott, a good friend of my uncles owned this car back in the early 90's. I have rode in this car a few times and it is a blast. Back then it was black with teal and pink stripes.

The mid engine bird I posted above also uses the Toronado trans.

Penelope's car from Thunderbirds? Seriously AlkiIroc, you need to get out more, LOL! The Elf Tyrrell Grand Prix car had 4 front wheels too...
GM made a rear engined Camaro- it's called a Fiero. I would swap a small block or 3.4 into one of those before I would cut up a 3rd Gen. But if you have unlimited time and budget... I have a burnt out 1991 you can have cheap as a project car!

Its not your car, its his. If its done right its not "cutting up" and ruining a thirdgen. Its using a thirdgen to build another project car as has been done many times in the past.

Re: Mid-engine Third Gen?

Easy to do if you have two or three years, thats an olds 425 engine, transaxil from 1967 Olds Toronado, the caddy setup will work also.I would buy a practice third gen from craigslist do not ruin your car, This way you can see if it can be made to fit and roll straight.buy a running caddy, pull the running gear, and all parts needed to run and stop.then all it takes is two or three skilled guys and a deep wallet and you will have a mid engine camaro.

Re: Mid-engine Third Gen?

way to bring back an old post but i believed a mid engine is quite possible ive been thinking of it the last coupe days i thought it would be possible if you took the engine/trans out of a police impala 2000-2005 (215hp) and make up a frame to hold it after cutting apart the rear end out basicly. then wire it up. welding a sheet of steel in the old engine bay to make a trunk having the front slant down to the ground from the rad suppot so the air can escape. cooling would be 2 2in pipes goin down the tunnel the gas tank would either be in the front or behind the engine. electric cooling fans. take another sheet or 2 to make a fire wall and wheel wells. taking the stock exhaustmanifold adding a flex joint so when the engine moves from torque then running it to a muffler that goes across the back bottom of the car.taking a shifter from a shifter from an impala with a console so it will still be floor mounted. run a tube for intake down the tunnel put the air box in like the location of the charcoal canister.

Re: Mid-engine Third Gen?

your going to need to shorten the front and extend the rear, my uncle and i are building a c4 based super car that is now mid engine, set up for an ls7 with a Porsche trans axle and 180 deg headers . the front got shortened 10 inches and lengthened 20 in the rear, with engine and driver the bias is 50 50

Re: Mid-engine Third Gen?

i used to have a 500 caddy engine in a chevy pickup.the 1970 500 engine was factory rated at 400 bhp.if you use an edelbrock intake on the 500,it weighs less than 100 pounds more than a 350 chevy.id use a 500 and transaxle out of a early seventies eldelrado.
