2 cars 1 project...

Okay so I have a 82 z28 with a mildly tuned 350 with a turbo 400 tranny, but the body is rusted pretty bad it was up north and the salt on the roads took its toll. I also have a 92 Rs t-toped with a worn out 305 and a turbo 350 tranny, so my plan is to transfer the 82 guts into the 92. I plan on acquiring an engine hoist, so my first question would be should i remove the engine and trans together or seperate, my vote is together because of the low ground clearance on the cars. But I would like to here from some of yall who have already done this and get your input on how I should go about this. Also I will be designing and build my very own custom Ram air system that will incorporate the common system for these cars along with another to create what I hope to be the ultimate ram air system for these camaros. I will put some pics up soon, the car will be carburated either way, now what i mean by that is when the 350 is removed i plan on rebuilding it and replacing the crank, cam, and a few others depending on how much of my spare parts im willing to through into this, my plan is to make this from mild to wild... what I meant about carburated either way was, I have a triple 2 barrel carb setup i might be throwing on here depending on how deep i want to go into designing the ram air system, I would also have to design a custom air cleaner to flow into my ram air system.

anyways thats the plan so far this will be an ongoing project, I would like to here from any of you guys who have done things similar, any ideas on where to start on the air cleaner as i dont have one currently for the triple setup, I havent seen a 3rd gen camaro running triple 2 barrels so I might go that way just to be creative.

Re: 2 cars 1 project...

i've pulled and installed an engine and tranny bolted together in my 3rd gen. its not a big deal. the 3 2bbl set up sounds like a headache in my opinion.

Re: 2 cars 1 project...

Pulling them in one piece just means you have to jack the car up higher to get them out... assuming your engine crane has a long enough arm it will be fine.

3x2bbl carbs... unless it's a show car you're better off with a single carb and manifold well matched to the engine combination. 6 pack setups like that were orginally designed when larger carbs were not that common, and they've always been a pain to tune, your 350 isn't going to need that large a carb...

I know what your saying about the 6 pack, ill probably end up with a high flow intake matched to the current carb, the setup on it currently is stock intake with an adapter plate, I was just thinking it would be cool to see a 3rd gen with a 6 pack.

Re: 2 cars 1 project...

I'll admit they look cool under the hood of some late 60's musclecars, but a 3rd gen... early technomobile, low hoodline and all the other crap that goes with it... naw, not right, no performance advantage...

Lets face it, I hate the TPI setup, but in terms of looks when you open the hood a nicely detailed (painted, polished... some sort of theme) TPI looks about as good as it gets under a 3rd gen hood...

If you do go six pack, make sure you buy a good quality synchronizer for your carbs, otherwise you're never going to get it to run just right.

A home made water manometer could balance them very accurately.
