Suggestions for hood idea's
Well here we go, this is going to get alot of people talking. I have a 3" cowl hood from a Montecarlo, its is already on my car, I failed at my first atempt at body work. Used form board and resin, bad idea, so I am removing all the bondo and fiberglass and starting over again.
The question I have is, should I go back to cowl, OR, turn this into a ram air style.
I have a 350 Carbed with open element, not sealed yet

Re: Suggestions for hood idea's
Hood designs are always personal preference. For street use, a ram air style scoop isn't that good because it catches so much water, bugs etc. The cowl is a better choice.
On my race car, I've had many different hood styles. I started with a typical aero scoop. I then went to a 6" cowl with a tunnel ram poking through the top. I covered the top with a piece of the old aero scoop but found vision very restricted and went back to just the 6" cowl which still limits vision.
Finally I installed a short cowl with a short aero scoop on top of it. I don't run air filter and my tunnel ram just fits under the scoop. Vision is very good. The scoop does grab a lot of air. By mid track I'm doing at least 100 mph and I can see the back of the hood lifting up. By the end of the track, the back of the hood raises about 2". I installed Dzus fasteners to hold it down.

I figured for sure that I would get more on this, as far as which is better for daily driving and all that, I guess I will seal it up and just go with the cowl. My thought was that front of back that it was still getting outside cold air so either would be ok, I had an idea for stoping the rain and even bugs. Heck I get rain in there now but I guess it would be more so on a front of the hood.
