new hood
i started this back in june but havent had time to finish it. so this weekend i got back on it . its not finished but close . i got all the dents pounded out and got the layer of filler on. i got a friend of mine helping me out and he said he could make these hoods or any kind anyone wants steel or fiberglass. soon as were done with this hood were going to start one of those infamous jap hoods. so let me know what you guys think. also about the other hoods .

Re: new hood
i think its a great start, can't wait to see it painted up. keeps the louver/blister provisions while still keeping the factory lines.

Re: new hood
I think it looks great. Very aggressive looking. If you had a build thread I missed it though. I have a question.. Did you just cut and weld that cowl on, or did you try to do it factory with the inner hood panel raised as well?
I guess I'm asking if you just modified the top skin of the hood, or the bottom as well.

Re: new hood
sorry no build thread i do have pics of the process just never started a build thread on it . as for the top side of the hood i cut down the body lines and raised it up about 3 1/4" and made filler panels for the side and welded them in. as for the bottom i cut out the center under where the blisters will set . i should have the top side in primer this weekend then i am going to start on the under side . i am going to smooth it out and blend all the seams from the sides to make it look like i didnt just hack it up. i will post more pics of the finishing process for everyone to see. also if you would like tto see some of the earlier pics let me know and i will post them up.

Looks good! Defintly should make the louvers functional since you already have it down to this. Looks great though!

Re: new hood

Re: new hood
Great job, now i understand how you cut it. You cut the middle out of the taped part, correct?

Re: new hood
After cutting out much of the underside structure, is the hood still relatively stable. I guess the cowl fabrication adds back some rigidity.

Re: new hood
I have a few more questions, when you welded the hood up, what wire thickness did you use? Also did you completely weld everything or did you just tack it? And how did you get it the seems so smooth?

Re: new hood
looking forward to the end reveal.... i always wondered what a cowl hood with the blisters would look... A shaved rear bumper would be nice on these cars too cant wait to see how that works out too..
