Camaro shaker?

I searched around, didnt see anything. Has anyone attempted to make a shaker hood for a 3rd gen camaro? Either way I will be fabing one up before too long. just for kicks. Gotta find me a hood I can destroy though... Is there any interest in these?

Re: Camaro shaker?

Its been done before on a 3rd gen Firebird. If you search for that you might get some results. Personaly...I don't think it would look right. Since a shaker was never an option on a Camaro.

I never got beyond this point:

Decided to go with a cowl setup instead.

Don't forget that the aircleaners on TBI and carb setups have a slight offset. To get the shaker centered you'll have to give the attaching pin the same offset, or use an offset pin to correct the offset instead.

Great artistic skills! That hood looks incredible and I would love to see it done.

Re: Camaro shaker?

There was a special addition trans am that came with a shaker hood I believe it was called the bandit II I almost bought one that popped up on craigslist but it was gone by the time I got a chance to contact the guy. I think a shaker hood on a camaro would look pretty neat definitely something you don't see everyday.

I love that drawing and its really tempting to try it while my car is taken apart for body work.

Re: Camaro shaker?

Well, this is definitely going to happen. I am getting a shaker from a 78 trans am to give me an idea what I am really getting into. Other than that I'm going to look at a few hoods, hoping for one to be good enough to do with. lets see how many hoods I f up before I get it right... jkjk Im going to be using cardboard as a mock for the hood till I think I have it well enough. then out comes the plasma cutter (gotta love working at a body shop )

Re: Camaro shaker?

Stock base Camaro hood, cutting the shape for the hole in the hood out of cardboard, trace lines, 30 minutes of cutting (cutter wheel leaves cleaner edges) and about an hour to make a plug for the fiberglass shaker would be my approach if I still wanted to do this. Lay-up 2-3 layers of fiberglass, blocksand, filler, blocksand again and paint. Glue weathersealing on to the shaker to keep water out of the engine bay.

There isn't a whole lot that can go wrong.

I think the 2nd gen shaker is just too small to really work well on a 3rd gen. The 3rd gen uses surfaces to great effect, where the 2nd gens used lines for styling queues.

Re: Camaro shaker?

Oh I planned to use the 2nd gen shaker just as a base idea. Just so I can get it settled on the carb right. After that I will probably make my own outta either sheet metal or fiberglass, or a sheet metal skeleton pretty much, then glass it and sculpt it till I like it.

Re: Camaro shaker?

How bout doing a cuda style shaker? opinions ? If I did a cuda style, it would stick up a bit higher so I can put a good sized cleaner in there.

Re: Camaro shaker?

I'm thinking the same thing on mine... mocked up a quick cuda style on a camaro model, and I think it looks pretty respectable... but that's just me. (I mean the shaker on the car, not the pic quality. )Name: camaroshaker.jpg

Re: Camaro shaker?

haha, same here... i'm prob gonna just fiberglass my own, because buying the kit is hundreds more than i'm willing to spend. i figure if i can find a hood in the junkyard, shape the scoop in a big piece of pine, then fiberglass it and put it all together i can build it right for under $50... i'll post pics if i get my car running well enough to warrant a "frivolous" project like this.
