How could i make a 2 inch Cowl grille?
I got a hood with a 2 inch cowl from the junkyard. It didnt have a grille in it so i was wondering if i could make one or maybe find one? And if i were to make one, what would be the best material? I was thinking Screen door mesh or maybe something thicker. Heres my other thread for restoring the hood for pics

i just answered one of your questions on the other thread... so...... im going to keep this one much MUCH shorter...
YES.. you can make one..
best material would be carbon fiber..
best way to do it is to find a GOOD OEM one and make molds and put them together.
you can paint carbon fiber, or it looks cool "raw"... if you want something to actually keep stuff out then get some of the aluminum with holes drilled in it and cut it out. it has a name but i don't remember right now... people use it on grilles or whatever else.. it's not coregated metal, and it's not expanded metal. just metal with holes punched in it.. steel or aluminum work, but aluminum polishes to a shine... then spray clear coat over it and they stay shiny until the clear wears off... (years)
just use cardboard to draw a template, then cut the metal out..
pretty easy really.

then again, expanded metal COULD look cool if you got the right pattern

You mine like mine? Just cut holes in the side, get some grill mesh material, and glass it in, I think you can also use seam sealer too or something like that, on my hood the original owner had used some kind of putty like stuff.

Have something custom made like this... Someone sent me that plastic grill for their hood. He Wanted something custom out of aluminum. So this is what I made him.
Sorry about the cell phone quality pics. Will have better ones this weekend once fully polished.

Please explain which benefits carbonfiber would have in this application over other materials. I´m curious

The expanded metal mesh you mentioned would also work just fine and is quite easy to cut to size and glue in place.
The custom grille FSTBDY made also looks excellent
