Firebird Interior ignition box install
Ive seen ppl mount them inside but mine looks so darn good that i gotta post some pics. Its a shame to mount something red billet out of the way and having my old MSD on the firewall wasnt cutting it, figure heat could effect something like this. The box is a mallory 6853M (6AL) and uses mag pickupwires to fire off the 521 BBF.
The box is mounted to the 1/8" ABS textured black plastic. Used stainless hardware to mount it with 1/4" aluminum spacers to mount the box off the plastic to help getting air around it.The Actual case is grounded through one of the mounting screws but its hidden since its grounded on the hidden side of the mounting screws on the back side of the ABS, this is to eliminate radio noise picked up by the box. I seperated the mag pickup wires from the rest to help with "radio" interferance and has its own rubber grommet. Then the power wires have there own rubber grommet as well as all the other wires. Box is grounded straight to the battery using 10gauge.

where did you get the thing where radio is? I'm trying to find a way to delete a.c. And keep Just the radio and try to get more room out of my interior..but don't want to strip it completely down

I made everything. Its black textured ABS, which I cut and mount to the back or front of the center radio cluster. Allows me to mount switches and what not. I did the same thing to the center AC/heat ducts for my dual gauges and then the insert behind the ignition box

Re: Firebird Interior ignition box install
depends on how much you can actually see and what your going to do.
door panels = aluminum and had to be cut to fit, then holes cut for handles and switches, then fastened to the door.
Carpet= All new black carpet from newark auto, most of the interior had to come out to do this. and then cutting the holes and laying it down etc.
Seat = had to make brakets and weld to the floor then assemble the aluminum adjustable seat brackets and mount it to the seat then fasten it to the roll bar.
Roll Bar = 8pt with swing out kits, inteior had to be out and took a LONG time, prob 2-3 days straight just fabrication/painting.
Gauges = mostly aftermarket, lots of wiring and sending units. Had to take the dash panels off to do them, lots of fabrication for filling vent holes/radio/heat and AC panel etc. The speedo and tach are about $500 by themselves not including the trans sender and had to enlarge the stock speedo/ tach holes a good bit to get them to fit and figure a way to mount them and clear everything in the back. They are 5" gauges which are about 1" bigger than stock. LOTS of time here.
gauge pillar = simple but getting the gauges and wiring up there is a PITA, better take the dash off for this.
Then theres a ton of things you dont see, Nitrous kit, fire extinguisher, Rear speakers are deleted, roof and rear speaker covers are covered in black pleather (fake leather), all lights are red, All gauges including stock are using high intensity very expensive LED red lighting. Ive got a few hidden kill switches also.
For me to say how long to do it? it was over a period of time of about 2-3 yrs. But If I did it all in one shot it would have taken me a few months straight.
B&M shifter = took a good bit of time to get it to work and wiring. Have to take the center console out and run the cable to the trans and attach a bracket. More work than I thought it was.

Re: Firebird Interior ignition box install
bought the panels from S&W in PA. Cost me like 50$ or so plus shipping, it was hard to find ones that were the right size or larger that way I could cut them to fit. Cutting the holes was tricky. I used the stock door panels to mock up the holes then transfered the holes to the panels, Then used a jigsaw to cut the holes out. That way the handles are stock and fit like stock in the stock location.
