modifying intake, help?

i have a 92 v6 camaro and wanna make the intake a bit better flowing. its all stock. would drilling holes in the housing be a horrible idea? i dont have very much money so im kinda looking at alternative ways of making the best with what i got.

Re: modifying intake, help?

haha thanks man. ill give it a look. im fine doin all the stock stuff its the modding thats killing me. so many choices and different opinions. just wanted to drill some damn holes! lol right now my intake is sucking air from about a 2in by 3in hole on the intake housing. i always heard that a more open housing will let the engine breathe better and in turn maybe an extra mpg or hp

Re: modifying intake, help?

for efficency i would say a CAI, good plugs, wires, heat wrap exausts manifold, get 2 bottles of seafoam and run it through oil, gas, and intake.

Re: modifying intake, help?

buy the special wrap, not too expensice, and there are a vairety of them ( some that you have to spray w silicone spray paint and others that you just wrap and clamp on)

just look on ebay for some. here is a start:

heres a high quality one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/RACING-EXHAU...c36f7d&vxp=mtr

and here is another one that you have to buy clamps and might have to order several but its ready to go and is good:

Re: modifying intake, help?

If you really want to open up the air filter intake assembly for free, you can just take off the outer part of the can.

You have to just undo the air assembly so that your air filter is sealed from the top and the bottom. Its free and easy to do. Its not as good as a CAI and probly wont net you but 1-2 hp but if you really want to start drilling holes try that route of removing the outer can as its a cleaner and faster process.

well my gas gauge broke while i was changine out the fuel pump but i fill her up with 25$ and i can go from my house to school and back to my house and to a city about 20 min away, and back and to school and home and to town and home, and it will still ahve gas,

BUT

i changed the plugs wires, injectors, fuel pump, filter, and much other stuff so you would know mine would be in pretty good shape, and this is when i had a bad head gasket, now that im changing mine, im sure mine will be even better

Re: modifying intake, help?

.... $25??? thats barely 4.5 gallons here if that. isnt the tank a 15.5 gallon tank?

oh and are there any negative effects of taking the filter out of the housing?? or even anything positive?

do you mean not having the filter on or just removing the outer can??

You need the filter on to filter the air but as long as the top and the bottom of the filter are sealed up to something your fine.

Honestly for opening up the intake system like that you will barly at all notice it if at all. Just my 2 cents as the V6 thirdgens are restricted in other places much more.

Re: modifying intake, help?

dont do it! you will get your engine all dirty. you will allow dust and many other things that get sucking in to enter your intakes and engine. this will worsen your car doublefold.

umm here gas is 3.70 a gallon. or something like that. i have filled the car up with about 35$ if im right.

Re: modifying intake, help?

no not taking the filter off i know my whole car will go to crap it i do that. im just talking about the can. even 0.5 mile better mpg? gas is $4.10 here at the cheapest place and getting 18mpg highway kinda sucks. my previous car got 15 mpg highway but it also had 300hp and it was wayyyyyyyyy faster.
do new plugs and wires make a noticeable difference in gas consumption?

Re: modifying intake, help?

Go to the junk yard and pull a dual snorkel intake, cut the bottom out of the filter boxes and switch to K&N filters. It is an easy mod, looks stock and really helps...
