Frame and Cage- What do I have here?

Here's my latest Craigslist find. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but I got a realy good "barn find" deal that I couldn't pass up. The seller even delivered it from 50 miles away!

It looks like an old drag car frame or kit. It was never totally built into a complete car. But I can't figure out it's origins.
It looks like it's set up for Pinto/MustangII/aftermarket front suspension, and it seems to be set up on a 108" wheelbase.
The seller thought that it was set up for a 1st Gen Camaro. The rear main hoop appears as though it will fit into either a 2nd or 3rd Gen as well.

The closest thing that I can think of after looking around on the internet is a Chassis Engineering kit, or something.

Anybody have any ideas?

IMO it looks like someone started to build a roundy round dirt track car or a desert dune bug.

Re: Frame and Cage- What do I have here?

Could be anything but it's a drag cage/frame. Looks like a basic 8.50 certification cage. Not enough tubes to get a 25.5 SFI certification but wouldn't take much to add in the rest providing the current ones are legal.

Good start for a tube chassis car providing you can figure out what body would fit over it. The basic cage like that is the cheapest part on building a tube chassis car. Once you get it sitting on 4 wheels, the costs start to come down.

Re: Frame and Cage- What do I have here?

I've been around a lot of circle track stuff and it's definately a drag set up. And yeah, I wondered if it might be a truck chassis too, it looks like the cage is kind of far forward. But it measures out to 108" wheelbase, and the previous owner said that he and his buddies had taken a 1st Gen shell and set it down over the cage and frame and it fit really well. I guess maybe the space behind the main hoop would make room for the stock back seat????

Anyway, I really only want the cage and possibly the rear section, although I'm not sure I need that either. Can anybody guess a value for the front section or the rear? I'd rather run a highly modified Camaro front frame section than the Ford/Aftermarket stuff.

Or, how would you go about building a car out of this? I don't mind totally losing the stock floors and trunk, but I want to keep all of the working door jambs, front and rear fire walls, rear inner wheel wells, rocker boxes and etc. Would you split it down the middle (not the roof though), or maybe horizontally along the firewalls?

Re: Frame and Cage- What do I have here?

We have bought a lot of distressed incomplete projects over the yrs.It is in fact cheaper to buy good built projects than trying to build them your self.Just got to know what to look for.Now for this frame. We wouldn't buy a project like this mainly because it is way too far from being a roller, let alone a car.To "try" to section it into a back haft it also a really bad idea.If you got it cheaply enough, and you seem to indicate you did,use it as a learning curve of what you don't want, and a stepping stone on a resale to find a roller that you do want.Same concept, find a roller is cheaper than to build one.A cheap way to increase the resale is to have it certified by NHRA.But do resell it.

Looks like a s10 or ranger frame/cage for a trail truck... But I'm not 100% sure on it is the frame home made or does it look like it was bought that way.
