radiator support cover fab

I went through the search on support covers but most threads are 6 or 7 years old. Does anyone know of someone that has even thought of the poor ole 3rd gen as needing a chrome radiator support cover? I found one company making a cover out of stainless, but unless your're building a show car, A $100 bill is a bit much. A cover for a 2nd gen is 20-30 bucks. I've broke 2 plastic ones and need to do something else....

Re: radiator support cover fab

Well, that didn't get much of a response did it? OK, lets try this. HEY !!! all you manufactuers out there that monitor these sites all the time looking for new ideas.

You have ten years of Camaros and Firebirds out there that could use a nice upgrade of a solid metal radiatior support cover. The factory cover is plastic and very prone to breakage. Don't need to be stainless steel, chrome would be fine. In fact, stainless really does not match much under the hood because of rareity and cost of stainless steel products.

If your company already makes one out of stainless then it would not take much to make one out of steel and chrome the sucker. I am betting that you would sell of ton of them.. Just my 2 cents..

Re: radiator support cover fab

no manufacturers make them but they are pretty simple to do. correction if a manufacturer makes one i dont know about it and itd be overpriced. look up twin_turbo's 87 iroc build thread. his is one of my favorites

Re: radiator support cover fab

Well considering this is the fabrication section and not the aftermarket vendor section you probably wont get much USEFUL replies but just get the "make it yourself " replies. I personally am more a function over form person and made my own radiator cover / fan shroud out of aluminum with a single 2500 cfm fan.....

Why not contact Hawks and see if they're interested in selling a chrome version?

Re: radiator support cover fab

I guess if I had the tools and machinery, I may be able to "fab" a cover, but just thought maybe someone had deceided to market one that I had not found. Thanks for all the input.....

Here's mine, a piece of checkerplate with a bend in it. Nothing more fancy required than a jigsaw, vice, and a couple bits of wood.

Re: radiator support cover fab

dont need any special tools. a flat edge and a 2x4 and you can have yourself a nice bend.

Re: radiator support cover fab

Do a search, I posted a DXF for the thing, you can take it to a machine shop and they can cut it and then use a brake to get the folds in there.

That's not a replacement support, just a stick on piece of bling. Tacky IMO
