Fabricating a shift rod (to replace cable)
Has anyone done this/ is it possible?
I have a B&M Megashift console shift, and it seems like a waste to spend 60-80 dollars on a cable, if its possible to make one out of rods

With some fabrication skills, anything is possible but why would you want mechanical linkage for an automatic shifter. Cable routes much easier under the floorboards. Fabricating a good rod system will probably cost more than a cable.
A column shifter is more common to have mechanical linkage. Floor mounted shifters are not in a good position to run rods.

Someone was just telling me they had done it to theirs (Same shifter/trans) today. And I didn't know if anyone had tried it / has one. Cables gonna run me 60ish, where as he said the rods for his cost 5 or so bucks in parts. Wasn't sure if it was worth a try or not

Well your shifter isn't designed for rods so you'll have to modify it somehow. To me, that would mean cutting a hole in the floor and extending linkage down and off to the side using bracket and bellcranks. You'll need to maintain pivot ratios so that the same amount of travel down with the shifter is also done at the linkage on the side of the transmission.
$5 in parts doesn't mean it's still something that can easily be done.
You're not going to find any sort of kit to do this so some engineering and fabrication work will need to be figured out before even attempting it. Like I said, cheaper to just buy a cable.
Ask the person who told you that they did it on how it can be done. Get pictures.

Wish, do you have the "L" bracket that bolts to the tranny for that shifter? i dont think the stock bracket is compatible? i think theres also a bracket and a few spacers needed for the cable install? it usually all comes in the box along with a cable when you buy a new shifter. just some things to think about. IDK what parts you already have?

A friend of mine, who puts V8's in S-10 and Astro vans...told me something a few years ago...but try to find a Chevette in a junk yarrd now....anyway....he would go to junkyards and take the shift linkage out of them for the S-10s...he said the chevette is the only GM car made with rods not cables and can be easily modified to work in any GM ...I bought a 81olds cutlass from him...and he had put a chevette rods in it. ..if you do this get everything from the chevette ..rods to shifter...
